    3. Thanks for this Valerie. Now the mystery deepens because Robert Mann was my great grandfather! So this is a residence I knew nothing about! I have found it on my Ordnance survey map from 1910. Anne in Victoria BC. Thanks also for looking up William Syddall's baptism. We think we have found him in Radcliffe (of all places). ----- Original Message ----- From: <eng-lan-bolton-request@rootsweb.com> To: <eng-lan-bolton@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 12:15 AM Subject: ENG-LAN-BOLTON Digest, Vol 1, Issue 20 > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 3. Hi Barbara, I managed to get to the Archives today and looked up the marriage of George Hart and Betty Rostron. There was no occupation given, and the witnesses were parish clerks. Both parties signed with their mark. Thanks, Barbara Los Angeles, Ca Hi Barbara, You wrote <Could someone look up the marriage record of George Hart married Betty Rostron 1st Jan 1822 at St Peter, Bolton Le Moors (IGI).> I have the indexes of St.Peter's marriages and can confirm that George Hart married Betty Rostron (Rosthorn on the transcription) in 1822. Unfortunately these indexes do not give any more information. You wrote <Can I order a certificate from the Church?>. I would doubt this. You wrote <I am interested in place of birth and names of parents.> The actual marriage records for this period do not normally give place of birth (only the parish), and do not give names of parents. The only other information you are likely to get are names of witnesses, and occupation of groom. I could look up this marriage record next time I go to the Archives, which are closed at the moment for stocktaking. Valerie

    3. Many thanks Andrea. I knew that Fountain Byers had married Sarah Ann Jolley, but haven't been able to make a connection with the 3 others named Jolley/Jolly who died. Maybe there is no obvious connection - do you know of one? Fountain Byers was apparently a very good natural bass singer, and the whole family said to be very musical. We are recording relationships between victims, though I have drawn a line beyond 1st cousins - otherwise it gets too complicated. What was the relationship between Wm Gore and the Livesey lads? I am uncertain from the info you gave me, but it looks too diffuse to be included. Regards Peter

    3. Hi, I can't read the plans on the net, sorry ! However I have printed them out and in the light of day they may become clearer to my waning eyesight ! Then again, have you checked the photo on the website about which I told you ? Isn't it beautiful? I am a Church addict, being an ancestor of many Ministers/Vicars. Do I presume that you are asking me ? Otherwise whom? I have just checked, under the light in the courtyard. I cannot read the small print, but if you check with the photo of the Church, it appears very likely ! It is dark here in N.S.W. I shall re-check in the morning. (Remember that you get our 'used days') ! Cool ! Please keep in touch. Carolyn. 1. [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] WHICH CHURCH ?
    2. Carolyn and Darryl
    3. Greetings, All, I have just been reviewing my ancestors. They all seem to have been married "BOLTON". They were all Church of England. There are many C of E Churches in Bolton. How do I work out which one? I know that my researcher wrote "St Peter's, Bolton". Years are between 1730 and at least 1833. Would love some help! Best wishes, Carolyn. Australia.

    1. [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] MORRIS, GARTHSIDE/GARSIDE/KAY
    2. Carolyn and Darryl
    3. Greetings to all, Jane GARSIDE married Andrew MORRIS at St Mary's, Bury, 18 Jun, 1809 (Extracted Entry IGI). Jane was bapt. as Jane GARTSIDE on 18 Jun, 1786 at St Peter's, Bolton to Thomas GARTSIDE and Mary KAY( m. 1776, St Peter's, Bolton). Andrew and Jane had 7 children, all bapt at St Peter's, Bolton: viz.: - 1811 Ann - 1813 Mary - 1815 Betty - 1818 Thomas - 1822 Alice - 1824 Andrew - 1828 Jane Why would Jane be married at St Mary's Bury when she was bapt at Turton/St Peter, Bolton? Sorry that this seems such a stupid Q., but I've just come across it in my tree and wonder......................??? ..................Could this be whence my ancestors came? Or did Jane just like the Church, in preference to St Anne's, Turton ? Best wishes, Carolyn. Australia..

    3. Hi Andrea Many thanks for your offer of help with the info about the Livesey lads and Wm. Gore. Pam Clarke will contact you soon about them. When I tried to discover the origins of James Livesey I came to the conclusion that he was born as James Harper before his parents married - is that in agreement with your knowledge of the family? Do you have the birthdates of the Liveseys and Wm Gore please? I have attempted to determine the birthplace and birth, at least to the nearest quarter, of all the victims, but it is nice when we find a birthdate as well. Regards Peter Wood

    1. Re: [ENG-LAN-BOLTON] Pretoria thank you
    2. Hi Peter Pam has kindly e-mailed me so I will be sending 'her hard copies' etc. William Gore was the Uncle to John & James Livsey. I will also dig out a photograph of Uncle Fountain and my Aunt Sarah for you from my photos and send onto Pam. Sarah sat with Fountain at his bedside, on the 21st Dec 1910 but sadly died in the early hours the following morning. He was badly burned by the explosion and was laid to rest on Christmas Day 1910 at Wingates. Sarah Ann his widow presented a bible to Wingates Ind Methodist Church in his memory. I could go on and on and on, but I think it would be wise to meet up with Pam (if you dont mind Pam !!) and go from there. I am so pleased that this project is coming along, and that the memory of these poor men and boys is kept alive. Speak to you soon & well done all of you involved. Regards Andrea
