Hi Val, That was a quick response. That was the right family. Thank you so much. I had put this family on the back burner a while ago because I could't seem to get any results. Now that brick has been removed I'm ready to go on again. Now to find who these children married. Thank you again so much. You have given me hope. Eleanor **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Hi there They are living at 29 Kent Street. I'm sending you a copy of the census sheet off-line. Regards, Val
Could SKS who has access to the 1901 census, look for a John & Mary Ann BOARDMAN, and family? In 1891 they were at 75 Kay St. On that census three of the children had moved, so there could be 5 or less with them in 1901. Their names and ages in 1901 would be as follows, Elizabeth 34, William 25, Edward 22, Susannah 19 (my grandmother) Albert 15.The parents would both be 58.My grandmother married Jesse KAY in March 1902. They cane to the US in 1903. My grandmother took my Mother to England in 1920 to visit. Her passport which I have, claims they went to 24 Liverpool St. Thanks for taking the time to read this. And thanks for any help you can give me. Eleanor Souza in MASS. US **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living. Hi Martin Thanks for comment My question was borne out of past experiences--- When I was researching Monmouthshire I discovered the 1861 census a presented was only [as I recall] about 60% of the total, the balance having been destroyed or lost Hence my question Regards Robert From the Roaring Forties
Hi Meg Thanks for comment on census In that those being surveyed often changed their information from census to census, I am doing a check on accuracy of the record before I get too involved Church records in some cases seem to cover both Wigan and Bolton, this also adds to the initial confusion Presently the information I have [as a possibility] includes the following areas Ince, Westhoughton, Halliwell The name is Mollineux [as well as variables] Regards Robert From the Roaring Forties
Hi , with regards to the Molineux name, there is a William Molineux interred at St Peters Church Halliwell 1863 aged 82. Jim
By the way, the 1841 and 1851 census (and perhaps others) are completely screwed up on Ancestry at the moment. Everyone has the same name! Martin Briscoe Fort William M&LFHS | Gwynedd FHS

Jane ROBERTS, who married Thomas REED(son of the above) in 1876. Jane's father, according to the marriage cert. was Reuben ROBERTS, but I can't find out anything about him. I have not yet been able to find Jane, who was born in 1853, on Freebmd. WALMSLEY William WALMSLEY married Eliza REED in 1866. They had 6 known children: Margaret 1866 Elizabeth 1871 James 1873 Jane 1876 Eliza 1878 Violet 1880 Descendants of these children are not known. Any information on any of these people? Anybody? Please? Thank you, Sylvia Wilcox, Sydney, Aust.
Hi All Am trying to establish the chances of researching census info [Halliwell and Westhoughton] using 'Ancestry' While the various census records are included in this Ancestry site, what is not stated is the population % which has been indexed for each of the Lancashire census from 1841 to 1901---knowing this will help ascertain the chances of success Can anyone supply this info Thanks Robert From the Roaring Forties
I think we have all had people or families that just cannot be found, some seemed to have escaped the census and others are just missing sections. Like any transcription project Ancestry has plenty of errors, it is not uncommon to find a whole household given the wrong surname because the name from the previous household has been continued down the page by the transcriber. (If you do find an error then don't forget to report to Ancestry, they are getting quite quick and add an alternative name within days). Robert So far as I am aware the censuses are supposed to be a full record of the whole population on specific Sunday nights in Spring. There were obviously people away from home but even they are supposed to be picked up staying as visitors and lodgers etc. The information was collected by Enumerators and the process overseen by local Registrars. A few census pages from some areas went missing years ago and you can find the list of these on Ancestry I believe. Cross checking Ancestry with Find My Past and Family Search which also have some of the censuses does show that the Ancestry coverage and particularly transcription is not 100% accurate but it's pretty good and using the others as well usually results in finding your folk. Transcription errors and misspellings obviously occur which is why it is good to use all sources possible. Hope this helps. I have Halliwells from Leigh and Atherton in my tree so we may have a connection. Happy hunting. I thought that Ancestry had indexed all the census apart from some missing pieces which they list on the site. Though last week I did find one piece around Bury missing and it was not on their list. That does seem to happen from time to time. Today I finally verified my great-grandparetns did have a child named Ann Hampson, christened 31 October 1883, born to James and Ellen Hampson, nee Bullough. Christening site was St. Mark, Bolton Le Moors, Lancashire. I have no idea whether she survived her childhood, cannot find a marriage or death record in Lancs nor in Canada where her two sisters were shipped. Can anyone help me with local records in seeking a death record for Ann. I do know she was still alive in 1885. Our family would greatly appreciate any information about this family unit. Regards, Joyce Stevens
