    3. Hi John, It is on the Old Parish Reg. web site..... but unfortunately there is no follow up from it..... it comes under Billinge...Blackburn. The only other one I can find in the Billinge area is St Aidans..... (which is on the OPR's and goes back to the 1700 hundreds) both of them, are in the Revidge area of Blackburn. Sorry I couldn't help you more. -----Original Message----- From: John Hanson via Sent: Friday, November 27, 2015 10:22 AM To: eng-lan-blackburn@rootsweb.com Cc: lancsgen@rootsweb.com Subject: [BLACKBURN] St Silas, Blackburn Can anyone help me please. 2. Antony Marr via
    3. John I know St Silas very well having grown up in that area - I don't think it has ever been known by any other name. The list of parish registers held at Lancashire Archives in Preston list marriages 1901-1971 for St Silas (ref PR 3428) , but only as the original register. There is no mention of any microfilm copy, so I suspect it hasn't yet been digitised which would explain why it isn't part of the LanOPC or Ancestry collections. 1. [BLACKBURN] Lonsdale family name
    2. Michael via
    3. Hello, my apologies if you see this on more than one list. Are you a LONSDALE or do you have a LONSDALE in your family? There is now a DNA Project for the LONSDALE family line. This can be found at https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/lonsdale Joining the group doesn’t mean you have to get your DNA tested. But it would help expand the worldwide LONSDALE Family Tree. If you are interested in a DNA test, there is a Group Discount. My own LONSDALE line is Lancastrian and there are records that show the family in the East Lancashire area of England as early as 1220. It is amazing how much our ancestors moved around. Wills from the 1590’s mention lands and property in Craven, Yorkshire. In the 1700’s some went to America, and came back. Others were transported to Australia. and stayed there. In the 1863 my 2 x times Gt Grandfather got a job in Brighton. So there are LONSDALE’s every where and with DNA testing we can hopefully find who is related to who. And where the different LONSDALE lines come from. And hopefully find a common link. Below are the spelling variations that I have found so far. And no doubt there are others out there. Lainsdaile, Lainsdale, Lainsdall, Landel, Landesdaile, Landesdale, Langsdale, Lansdale, Lansdall, Lansdel, Launsdall, Launsedall, Lawnsdale, Loansdale, Londegale, Londesdaile, Londesdaille, Londesdale, Londsdaile, Londsdaill, Londsdale, Londsdall, Londsdalle, Longdale, Longsdale, Lonndesdell, Lonsdale, Lonsdaile, Lonsdalee, Lonsdall, Lonsdalle, Lonsdayle, Lonsdeal, Lounsdale, Loundsdayle, Lousdale, Lownsdale, Loynsdale. So if you are a LONSDALE or have a LONSDALE in the family, please come and join us, at https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/lonsdale If you know a LONSDALE, can you please pass this information on. Thank you, Michael

    3. And I'd also put odds on Alice being : Name: Alice Smith Gender: Female Christening Date: 20 Apr 1823 Christening Place: RIBCHESTER-RC,RIBCHESTER,LANCASHIRE,ENGLAND Birth Date: 19 Apr 1823 Father's Name: Jeromiah Smith Mother's Name: Alice Bolton Indexing Project (Batch) Number: P00674-1 System Origin: England-ODM GS Film number: 942 B4C V. 36 Reference ID: The family are living in Cleaver St, Blackburn in 1851 with Jeromiah going under the name Jeremy. As Alice later named a son Jeremiah (Elizabeth's younger brother) there is a good connection there. Does this all make sense, my initial problem was there were two Henry and Alice Holdens of the same approximate age both with a daur Elizabeth born in the right area. Alice is baptised RC which is why she would have a civil marriage (probably the religious one's records aren't public). 3. Scrub the last part of that - I've just looked at the 1861 and 1871 censuses and it shows Elizabeth with a brother, Jeremiah, a much better name to check on and also a Rodger : Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1858 HOLDEN Jeremiah Chipping Preston SMITH CH/5/70 Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1859 HOLDEN Roger Chipping Preston SMITH CH/5/95 and to complete the picture we have Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1854 HOLDEN Elizabeth Chipping Preston SMITH CH/4/87 The 1861 census shows them all born at Woodfields, 1871 shows Alice born Woodfields, Stoneyhurst So things point to a Alice Smith who married Henry Holden at Blackburn Register Office in 1852. 3. I've had a quick look at the Lancashire BMD registrations for 1853 and there are no Elizabeth Holden's registered for Blackburn. However there are two for the Chipping Sub-District R.D. and two for Garstang. Looking at the indexes using FMP there are two for Clitheroe which is where I would expect for a Stoneyhurst birth (these may be the Chipping ones in LBMD) HOLDEN Elizabeth Chipping Preston BOLTON CH/4/79 HOLDEN Elizabeth Chipping Preston ISHERWOOD CH/4/73 HOLDEN Elizabeth Garstang Preston WAINMAN GAR/6/74 HOLDEN Elizabeth Garstang Preston WOODS GAR/6/74 Of course this all depends on Elizabeth having been born in 1853, widening the search by a couple of years will add to the possibilities. There is the marriage of a Henry Holden to Alice Bolton in 1852 - a "Ribble" Register Office amrriage in 1852 whic would fit in well with CH/4/79 above. If they had a civil marriage then looking for a baptism may be a little optimistic, I would guess they were R.C or non-conformist. 3. >From Bolton & District FHS: The next meeting of the Bolton & District branch of MLFHS will be on July 1st, which sees Cllr John Walsh coming to take us for “A Bolton Ramble”. Many will know of John as an experienced Bolton councillor, having served intermittently since at least 1975, and also Bolton Mayor from 2002 -2003 (http://www.boltonsmayors.org.uk/walsh-j.html). He is a proud Boltonian, and remains a staunch supporter of Lancashire Day on November 27th, and a very vocal critic of the change of county boundaries in which Bolton lost its Lancashire link (http://tinyurl.com/ndrecx5). I am advised that his talks can be somewhat “unpredictable”, but always interesting and amusing. We await his anecdotes with interest!! The meeting will be as usual at 7.30pm at Bolton Cricket Club, Green Lane, Farnworth BL3 2JB. and all are welcome. A Help Desk will be available afterwards for private research help, a recycle desk for old genealogical magazines, cds, etc, and a stationery stall offering archive standarditems at discount. For further information please consult our website at http://www.bolton.mlfhs.org.uk/ , email bolton@mlfhs.org.uk, or contact Secretary Barbara Owen on 01204 309515.
