    1. [BLACKBURN] Local register certifcate price rises
    2. Lynne
    3. News from Ian Hartas at UKBMD: >Hi, the local Register Offices have received a circular from GRO dated 9th March which stated that the fees for Birth Marriage and Death certificates issued by Superintendent Registrars is set to increase from £9 to £10 with effect from 1st April 2012. The circular also stated that these changes are being brought into effect via the Registration of Births Deaths and Marriages (Fees) (Amendment) Order 2012 which was laid before Parliament on 9th March. > >So order your certificates from the local register office as >soon as you can ! > >I do not know if this affects the cost of certificates from the GRO. > >Don't forget that it's your local register offices that have the original certificates and the GRO has copies only. > >

    2. Lynne
    3. Hello Dave and all Thanks very much for responding to my message. It seems that most of you are not subscribed to LancsGen and those that are subscribed to LancsGen don't seem to mind too much when they get duplicate copies of the same message so I'll keep cross-posting things that may be of interest to you. LancsGen is by far the largest and one of the oldest of RootsWeb's Lancashire lists and it can get a little busy. There are 100 subscribers to the Blackburn list (usually very quiet subscribers!), while LancsGen has nearly ten times that number. Of course, with that many subscribers, the chance that a query will be answered or a connection made certainly is higher. LancsGen also has the added feature of receiving copies of messages posted on RootsWeb's Lancashire message board. If anyone has a burning desire to find their ancestors in Lancashire, it couldn't hurt to subscribe to LancsGen (you can always unsub if you don't enjoy the list). A look at the list's archives might give you a feel for the list. You can see them at <http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index?list=lancsgen>. If you decide to subscribe to LancsGen, use the handy link on the list's information page at <http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/ENG/LANCSGEN.html>. (There's also a link there to unsubscribe, just in case.) Another Lancashire list that might interest you is LancsLife. LancsLife is not strictly for genealogy. The list is for discussion of all things related to life in Lancashire in order to place the lives of our ancestors in perspective: dialect, slang, and sayings; culture and traditions; history of towns and villages; folklore; poetry and songs; recipes;* and nostalgic essays. It's a very, very quiet list, so any contributions to it would be gratefully received. List information and subscription links can be found at <http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/ENG/LANCSLIFE.html>;. I'm not a very good researcher, so my contribution to Lancashire family research is to administer these lists, which is truly my pleasure. Kindest regards, Lynne *And speaking of recipes, if you like to cook, have family recipes you'd like to share, or are looking for English recipes, the British-Food list is the place to go. Information and subscription links are at <http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/UK/BRITISH-FOOD.html>.

The reason I'm asking is that in my efforts to get information out to all of you, I feel I may be unnecessarily bombarding (and irritating!) you with multiple copies of the same message. If the vast majority of you are also subscribed to LancsGen (an action I heartily recommend), then I won't send copies of the same message to this list. Let me know what you think. Thanks! 3. Hello everyone May I have a show of hands from those of you that _don't_ also subscribe to LancsGen? The reason I'm asking is that in my efforts to get information out to all of you, I feel I may be unnecessarily bombarding (and irritating!) you with multiple copies of the same message. If the vast majority of you are also subscribed to LancsGen (an action I heartily recommend), then I won't send copies of the same message to this list. Let me know what you think. Thanks! Lynne
