    3. Many thanks Bob and Paul. So Ashton St ran parallel to Higher Audley Street and connected River street with Bonaccord street, like the central bar of the 'H'. Great to have your help. -------------------------------------------------- From: "Bob Calvert" <calverb-feedback@yahoo.co.uk> Sent: Thursday, August 02, 2012 7:35 PM To: <eng-lan-blackburn@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [BLACKBURN] Blackburn street in 1891 > If you examine the 1891 census at the end of Ashton Street were a whole > load of barges on the Leed-Liverpool Canal. 3. Just found this on Cottontown.org - Ashton Street (1870-1959) Bonaccord Street/River Street Nos 1-13. Bonaccord Street (1870-1959) 128 Higher Audley Street Nos 1-13 and 2. So Ashton Street ran between Bonaccord Street and the Canal while Bonaccord Street branched off Higher Audley Street at No. 128. It's actually on the opposite side of the Canal to what I expected ! 3. If you examine the 1891 census at the end of Ashton Street were a whole load of barges on the Leed-Liverpool Canal. The final page of barges shows they were between Eanam and Cicely Bridge (frankly about the only place that would have accommodated this number of boats anyway). It's the Eanam Wharf area. The Ecclesiastical Paris for this Street was St Matthew - St Matthews Church was situated at Higher Audley Examining my old map of Blackburn does not show an Ashton Street in the area . The map does not show the Railway or Station which I think was built pretty well in this area though as Ashton St was still there in 1911 it couldn't have been obliterated by the Railway. The Street numbering went up to 21 so assuming the usual odd/even arrangement it was probably a short terrace about 10 houses long. The other end seems to butt up to Bon Accord St - a familiar name but not one I can locate on any maps I have access to. Does This help BobC On 02/08/2012 14:29, Brian Woods wrote : > Where was Ashton Street, Blackburn located in 1891? 3. Hi Brian The link below indicates where Ashton St was located. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/idld.srf?x=368772&y=427763&z=106&ar=y There was another street parallel to River St just a little further south. Ashton St was a short street running paralell to the main road connecting the two. I will send a copy of an older map off list that will give you a better idea of how things were.
