I have no idea where I obtained it and despite many internet searches I have been unable to trace it or the author and his family.. The introductory words are “These notes have been written by John Michael CUMPSTEY after research carried out with much help from his wife Joan and sons Ian and Neil”. It carries no date, but it mentions the 1891 census so I believe it was written after 1990 . I wonder if anyone on the list is familiar with it, as it refers in many ways to characters in my line of research. The Bolton branch of the Manchester & Lancashire Family History Society (MLFHS) (http://www.mlfhs.org.uk/Bolton/) will hold its first meeting of 2013 where we welcome Dr Alan Crosby to talk about "Lancashire Probate Records". He will discuss how these records are of special interest to family historians as personal documents, giving insight into family connections and a lifestyle of a bygone age; and explain the Probate system and how to make full use of the records. News from Ian Hartas of UKBMD (http://www.UKBMD.org.uk)- "Hi, Each of the Local BMD sites that uses the UKBMD software has been updated to add a new features to the Deaths indexes search. "This new optional feature gives you the opportunity to specify either a year of birth, or the age at death for the person you are seeking. "For example, on the Yorkshire BMD site if you were to select a range of years, 1837-1850, enter a name of Smith, select Hull as the region and finally enter 1820 as the year of birth the results would show all possible matches, based on the year of death and the age at death, plus or minus one year. This may help locate a death index entry when you know their year of birth, but do not know when they died. "Alternatively, if you enter a figure of less than 4 digits it assumes that you're asking for a match on the age, so the search will match the age plus or minus one year. "Many entries have not been indexed with their age at death and so a "-" will be shown. These will always appear as possible matches in the search results. The age at death in these cases may not be a correct match.
