I have a Mary Wells b)1798 who married a John Hughes. I know they had a son Henry Wells Hughes who was born 13/9/1833. Also the will of Dive Owen mentions grandchildren Ellen Hughes , Jane Hughes and a great grandchildren Jane Hughes and John Herbert Hughes. Her Hughes(es) lived in Mersham, but she believes that they are related to the Woodchurch Hughes family who were grocers and drapers. She has quite a bit of Hughes information linked with SE Kent from 17th - 19th century. They farmed in the area around Mersham, Sevington, Smeeth but also moved away from farming into property and retail in Faversham, Rye, Hythe and Dover. The earliest Hughes I have found was married here in 1733 to an Elizabeth Martin, occupation unknown, but who rented land worth £5 a year, 1750 and 1760. Can anyone help her further? She has taken information from Gary's and Peter's sites and was very complimentary about them, by the way.
