Hi Suzanne Like you I knew that Sophia was a widow in 1851 & that they were both alive in 1841, so when I found this death I applied for the certificate. It states Benjamin King died on 22 Aug 1844 in Eboney, male, the age is not readable, but states that he was the son of Samuel King and that he died of Dropsy. The informant was Eliza?? King (possibly mother although this is not stated). The registration district was Tenterden. Benjamin & Sophia was my husband's 3x great grandparents, so I would really like to find his death, I cannot believe that it's not out there somewhere, so any information at all would be very gratefully received. Best wishes Carol -----Original Message----- From: eng-ken-woodchurch-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-ken-woodchurch-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of suzanne.king2 Sent: 01 June 2007 17:49 To: eng-ken-woodchurch@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-KEN-WOODCHURCH] BENJAMIN KING Hi Carol It's Suzanne King here - All I know is that Sophia was a widow by 1851 census and the only Benjamin King I could find in the Death INDEXES (not online Woodchurch records) was in 1844 in the reg district of Tenterden (thus may have been buried in other parishes in the Tenterden Reg District). I would be very intrigued as to who this other Benjamin King was - the son of Samuel King - did this come from the death certificate of the Benjamin King who died in 1844 in Tenterden Reg District. As normally they do not always give parents names in burials. Good luck in your search and if you find out anything else be most interested. Hi Carol Well have tried to solve this puzzle for you but am afraid no luck. I did a freeBMD search for death of just Benj* (no surname) for Tenterden and any other district from 1841-1900 (thus in 1900 he be 110 years old as he bap 1790) but no luck. I just do not understand it. Reason why I sometimes use just forename is because there could be mispelling of surname KING I have found it in census as mistranscribed as RING before and as you know my Kings tend to use different surnames. I also tried just using name King and see what came up and did notice that there were 2 male deaths in 1841 and 1846 in Tenterdon district so checked this out to see if any births correlated with the deaths and they did so thus they were babies (no ages given in indexes at this time) and thus not possibly be Benjamin. What I do know is that the indexes whether by FreeBMD or the actual images of the indexes there is always that possibility that a death was not transcribed onto the indexes and therefore one should contact Tenterden Registration District (see Genuki for address) and ask them if they could look at their own indexes or see if they have a death certificate for a Benjamin King between 1841-1851 stating that you already have one certificate in your possession which is not the one you are after and explain that he is not on the GRO indexes and that it may be a possibility he was not transcribed onto the indexes. Also what I do find strange is why was he not buried in Woodchurch where he and his wife Sophia were living. However, Sophia was also not buried in Woodchurch. Somebody had informed me that Sophia died in Tenterden Workhouse in 1865 and I did notice in one of the census she was on Parish Relief. So was Benjamin in the Workhouse before he died. So I think also that you may want to search Tenterden parish church for his burial. I do know that with my Kings and doing Gypsy Research that although one may not always find every birth and marriage registered there will always be a DEATH registered. So in my opinion he died between 1841 and 1851 and is not on the GRO indexes and hence thus can not get a death certificate. I have a CD here of Poor Law Records for Mid Kent - I will see what it comes up with. So good luck with contacting the Register Office in Tenterden and hope you will find it and would appreciate to know the outcome.
