    1. [ENG-KEN-WOODCHURCH] Woodchurch records details query

    3. Couple of questions. I have noticed in the marriage details for James King and Mary Bourne Baker that both fathers have "father's name crossed out - Number 22 added" under the details. Any ideas what this means or why? Also on the baptism record for Jane Baker 4 March 1852 there is "Curate - Privately admitted July 11th 1852 F. Walter". Does this suggest that Jane was possibly a sickly child and the baptism needed doing quick just in case anything happened to her? This is probably the case as she was buried 2 December 1852 aged 9 months. **Liz Shoosmith (nee Baker)

    3. Dear Liz I cannot help you on why the father's details were crossed out and 'Number 22' substituted. I think Richard, Mary's father, may have been a witness, one of four. I do not think this happens elsewhere in Woodchurch marriages. With regard to the Private Baptism, you are correct. The child was not expected to live so the Baptism was done as quickly as possible, usually in church but sometimes at home. If the child recovered another Baptism, this time 'Public' could have occurred. A note in the margin 'P.B. since died' is quite common. As you all realise, I like where ever possible to include the Rector/Curate and his notes. They were all different and registered CMBs slightly differently. This was also true with the Census Enumerators. Best wishes - Bob Chown Elizabeth Shoosmith <liz.shoosmith@btinternet.com> wrote: Couple of questions.
