Hello Suzanne, The Kent Family History CD ROM lists the baptism as "Joseph Obian" as you say. I do not have access to the original at the moment, but there is the name "Odian" in the village, so it's possibly that. There was an Odian Cassingham and an Odian Samson: it could well be a surname derivation. Should it be Joseph OLIVER King?? Most appreciated. Thank you. > > Suzanne King >
Hi Josie and Peter Thank you for your replies - yes it was from the Kent FHS CD. Yes I will make a trip and check the originals at some point. Joseph Obian King s/o Joseph and Bethula appears in 1841 and 1851 census with his parents and then in 1861 census with his wife Sarah A - age consistent with birth c1834, and that a Joseph Oliver King married sarah Ann Austin in 1853 - all seems consistent and that Joseph Oliver King is most likely to be Joseph Obian King - however will have to check the records. Thank you. Dear Suzanne and all King researchers, I don't know if you've already found time to check the Joseph Oliver/Obian King baptism, but I was at CKS today and had a few spare moments, so decided to get out the baptisms and look. I think I can definitely say he is Joseph Oliver King, bapt June 30th 1833, son of Joseph and Bethulia King, labourer. But I can see why the transcriber thought it was Obian...the last four letters are almost one long line, but it's certainly not Obian, because the writer's other bs are quite different. Hope that helps, Josie
