Hi, I am that Patricia Courtney in France who still uses snail mail, and Catherine Ditton was my great grandmother, the evidence I have is this: My grandfather always said his mother was not allowed to marry his natural father as he was blind, and I suppose in 1901 that could be so, however, I have a letter in my possesion from a lady (I will mention no names) saying her brother had died, this was in 1960 and he had left my grandad £50, his name was Alfred, same as grandads and when I have looked at the 1901 census he lived very near, maybe even next door, he was also marked as blind, so although I have no real proof everything points to him. It would just be nice to tie up a loose end. Afterwards Catherine Jane married John Poune, whom grandad said was very kind to him "and treated him as his own".
