    3. Good Morning All I agree with all that has been said. I propose that Gary Samson be our Acting Chairman (and acting treasurer), and that Josie Mackie be our Acting Secretary. Of course this needs seconding and the agreement of at least a substantial number of the 14+ Group. It can only be formalised when we have agreed a constitution. Best Wishes to All of You - Jon (Acting Woodchurch Liaison Office ?) -----Original Message----- From: Gary Samson [mailto:gsamson@goldbern.co.uk] Sent: 11 July 2007 23:08 To: Jennie Light Cc: Jon Chaplin; 'Josie Mackie' Subject: Re: Woodchurch 14+ Group You're absolutely right, Jennie. We shall need a committee, particularly if we are to apply for funding to help out with our activities; most grant-awarding bodies expect this. We shall also need a formal structure. This all sounds very dry, onerous and bureaucratic, but it is very much a means to an end, and there's no reason why our informal meetings at the museum (and elsewhere) have to change very much at all. As a minimum, we shall need a chair, treasurer and secretary. We'll also need a constitution, which I've already offered to draft for comments. We'll also need to consider carefully how the group relates to the eng-ken-woodchurch mailing list, which, for many, is just that--a mailing list. Someone who subscribes one day and disappears the next, having had their research question answered by one of us, clearly has a different status to you or Josie or Jon, who would quite rightly expect to have more influence in the way the group is run. Some kind of formal (paid?) membership might help to clarify this distinction, but again this is something we need to discuss as a group. It may be that most of these issues can be resolved online, so do please keep these comments and suggestions coming. I wasn't aware we were planning to formalise the group - Gary only mentioned the change of name. But a constituted group brings a number of benefits and I'm happy to support. If I can assist in any way (mainly at a distance), please let me know. I have drafted a few constitutions in my time! Regards Peter Walker
