    1. [ENG-KEN-WOODCHURCH] Woodchurch Booklet: A Stroll Around the Green
    2. Gary Samson
    3. 'A Stroll Around the Green' by local author Jon Chaplin is now available to buy online at: www.goldbern.co.uk/woodchurch/stroll.htm This 16-page A5 booklet with its 22 black-and-white illustrations, a mix of period photographs and superbly detailed pen-and-ink drawings by local artist Gerry Jones, is designed to help you as you take an enjoyable 45-minute walk around Woodchurch village green. The centrefold has a map showing the location of the 33 buildings mentioned and so it is possible to take this stroll without actually coming to Woodchurch (although, of course, we recommend you do). The Green has long been the centre of the village and many of Woodchurch's oldest buildings are there. There is not enough space to give a full description and detailed history of each building, the aim is instead to satisfy some of your curiosity and whet your appetite to explore the village further. Jon has lived in one of the houses bordering the Green since 1994. Gary Samson Canterbury, Kent Woodchurch Then & Now www.goldbern.co.uk/woodchurch/stroll.htm

    3. I should add, now that you have me fishing around on the Woodchurch Local & Family History website, that it looks like Henry Pearson had a previous marriage (24 May 1866) to Jane Ballard before he later married Esther Holyer. Is that the case? Sincerely, Derek Johnson Indiana, USA --- Derek Johnson <derdejoh@yahoo.com> wrote: > Hi Lindsay, > > Thanks for the information. 3. Hi Lindsay, Thanks for the information. Here is what I have in answer to your questions concerning Edward and Mary Weeks... * They had 7 children: Charles, Flora, Bernard, Nora, Alice, Bertrand, and William. * Mary Weeks (nee Pearson) d. 4 Oct. 1886. I'm not sure of the location of her death, but her last four children were born in Ightham, Kent, so that may be a good bet. * Edward Weeks b. 21 June 1843 (Pluckley, Kent), d. 9 April 1926. 3. Good evening I must have been asleep in the sun the last few days and missed the conversation related to the Pearson family There is a "one world tree" on Ancestry showing no end of Pearsons from Woodchurch starting from 1690. I haven't counted but there must be 7 or 8 generations. My connection Eliza Pearson married George Homewood in1845 George was the son of Elizabeth Holyer Philip PS I don't want a Kung Fu Bunny but thanks for the offer !!! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gillian Floyd" <gillianfloyd@hotmail.com> To: <eng-ken-woodchurch@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 13, 2007 2:02 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-KEN-WOODCHURCH] Pearson s from Woodchurch > Hi Lindsay, > The information I have on the children of William and Mercy is as follows: > > - Sarah 3/1/1779 Woodchurch m. 3. Hi Lindsay, The information I have on the children of William and Mercy is as follows: - Sarah 3/1/1779 Woodchurch m. George Cole (possibly had a base-born son, Peter) - William 8/1/1780 Woodchurch m. Elizabeth Knowles. Had a son William, I can tell you about his wife and children if you don't have that already. - Mary 1781 Woodchurch m. John Miles and James George (don't know of any children) - Amy 15/1/1783 Woodchurch m. Richard Ditton - Joseph 1784 m. Sarah Relf (lots of children!) - Phoebe 1789 Woodchurch - Mercy 1790 Woodchurch - George 1792 Woodchurch m. Mercy Ledger (children Alfred, Eliza and Rachael - Alfred I have marriage and children details for) - John 1799 Woodchurch Hope that's of use, please get back to me if you need any more details on the children. 3. Dear Lindsay I have a Pearson ancestor, Sarah Pearson who married Thomas Fullagar at Woodchurch 16 Sept 1777. She was a parishioner of Bethersden at the time of her marriage. She died 10th August 1804 and her age was given as 72 so probably born about 1732. I could find no christening of a Sarah Pearson at Bethersden 1727-1737. Can you help with her and her parents please? From my extensive database of Holyer/Hollyer I can only find one Holyer/Pearson marriage, that of Esther Holyer to Henry Pearson on 10 May 1899 at Woodchurch. He was the son of William Pearson and Ann Weaver. If you have other marriages from the 18th century period you quote above, I would be keen to know about them. 3. Hello! I am interested in finding out more about the Ransley and Bourne families. My great grandmother was Susannah Ransley b 1833 in Woodchurch. She married John Pilcher b 1833 in Wye. They lived at 1 - 3 Marsh Street in Ashford where he was a Cordwainer. I have been able to find out that Susannah's mother was Martha Morris b abt 1795. She married William Ransley 22.10.1820. He died in June 1837 and Martha then married Charles Bourne in October 1840. He was born about 1811. If anyone can add anything else to this I would be very grateful. I'm also having problems finding John Pilcher's death. He was apparently living in Folkestone at the time with his son Franklyn. A long shot I know, but if anyone could give me some idea of which direction to go it would be good. Tried all the usual sources. With many thanks. Sally Jones

    3. I found the below entry on the Internet when searching for "Rye and Hugenots" as I have a hunch, as do others that the Paine's may well have come over from France. I have got back to 1690, so thanks to those of you who have helped me and I shall be depositing a copy of the family tree booklet with The Woodchurch Museum in Kent as the family hailed from that area and the museum offers a safe storage place for the work. Rye and Winchelsea became part of the expanded Cinq Ports & Two Ancient Towns in 1336 but this did not stop a major French raid in 1377, as a result of which the townsfolk hanged and quartered their officials for negligence. The town also became a refuge for Hugenots who brought weaving skills. -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
