    3. Hi Lindsay: Very Interesting ... AFAIK, Benjamin KING c. Cranbrook 20 Aug 1732 and Elizabeth RAPSON were married at Woodchurch 11 Oct 1755. Mercy KING their first daughter was c. 21 Mar 1756 Woodchurch (so marriage of parents was probably while Elizabeth was pregnant already!) and I have her marrying William PEARSON 14 Dec 1777 at Woodchurch.when she was 21. Is this a different Mercy KING and a different William PEARSON? The dates are different and it seems strange that you have them born around 1745 and marrying 1807 at age 53? 3. Dear Suzanne, I'll look at implementing a forename search on the Woodchurch BMDs this weekend. I'll make an announcement to the list when it's available. 2. suzanne.king2
    3. Please would it be possible in the near future to be able to search forename (and not just surnames) in the baps, marriages and burials indexes. As this would help me a great deal to find my elusive family who did not always use their surname King but do have their forenames. After searching for ages and ages I have finally found the king family in 1901 census in East Sussex under the surname SMITH in a tent. Seeing that their daughter Phoebe KING was born 11th March 1901 in Lowergreen, Woodchurch and her birth was registered on 17th March whilst still in Lowergreen I was expecting them to still be in Lowergreen or Woodchurch area upon the night of the census on 31st March 1901. The mother's maiden name was Smith on Phoebe's birth certificate which should have been Arnold. By searching the Forenames on the 1901 census I was able to find the family under SMITH with Nil known written for where they were born and also written under the ages column Nil Known and then ages were written over them all giving an age of each person 10 years more than what they should have been. However, the actual family unit is the same and where they were living and what they were living in gave it all away!! 1. [ENG-KEN-WOODCHURCH] Reputed Father maybe but who is the mother
    2. suzanne.king2
    3. Hi Everyone Does anyone have an illegitamate child in their tree with his first name being William born c1895 (or maybe born between 1890-1896) where there could be a reputed father called Francis John King or John King or Jack King or Frank King - he being born 1870 in Woodchurch. I was informed that Francis John King had a son William before he partnered up with Fanny Arnold c1896 and thus do not know who the mother is and thus do not know William's surname. Not even know whether born/baptised in Woodchurch or surrounding area. However, a possible baptism of this William there may not be a reputed father written down thus interested to know of anyone who has an illegitamate child called William born around this time. This William somehow met up with his father at some point either in Kent, Sussex or New Forest (as you all know my Kings were Gypsies and Travelled) and obviously William then went under the surname King. Does anybody have a William missing from their tree or have heard any rumours that their William ran off to Sussex or wherever or run off with the Gypsies (obviusly way past the 1901 census). I was also informed that William married twice - I have a Will King and May King both Gipsies living in 1922 in a roadside in East Sussex so not sure if this is the William and May being his first wife or partner. Then William King in 1941 at the age of 44 and a bachelor (would be bachelor if he did not actually married May) his father being John King married Elizabeth White (age 34) in Poole Register Office, Dorset. So if you can help really appreciate it. Bob would there be any chance that one can search also on forenames rather than just surnames on the Woodchurch online records please. 3. Hi Carol It's Suzanne King here - All I know is that Sophia was a widow by 1851 census and the only Benjamin King I could find in the Death INDEXES (not online Woodchurch records) was in 1844 in the reg district of Tenterden (thus may have been buried in other parishes in the Tenterden Reg District). I would be very intrigued as to who this other Benjamin King was - the son of Samuel King - did this come from the death certificate of the Benjamin King who died in 1844 in Tenterden Reg District. As normally they do not always give parents names in burials. Good luck in your search and if you find out anything else be most interested. 1. [ENG-KEN-WOODCHURCH] SWINYARD
    2. Josie Mackie
    3. Dear Dave, Was anyone able to help with your Swinyard query? I don't have any information that might help, but an idea. If you are looking for where the Swinyards lived before they came to Woodchurch, the Deposition papers may help you. These give information about witnesses (or deponents) in church cases: name, residence, occupation, how long he or she had been living there, and often his or her period of residence in other parishes if relevant to the case. Perhaps most important of all, the deposition gives the person's age and where he or she was born. The problem is there's a lot of them to look through! An index (roughly 1541-1755) has been made of some of them by a professional genealogist, but being a professional, you would have to pay. I have used this index for my Back family and got some good results. e.g. one of my Backs in the 16th century was involved in a case against the vicar of Wye. I got some useful biographical information about him. However, I then used it for my Beslees and came up with absolutely nothing, so it's a bit of a gamble. You might end up paying for nothing. Still, I hesitate to advertise on the Woodchurch 14+ mailing list ( although I am not in any way involved in the business!) so if you wish to know more about the service, contact me off list and I'll supply the details. best wishes, Josie

    3. Hi folks, This is an excellent resource and a great addition to the site. Checking out my Holyers (all present and correct), I was reminded that the Jane Holyer shown in 1861 as the grandaughter of Martha Hook was actually her great-grandaughter and her registered name was Sarah Jane Holyer. Moral: even an accurate transcription inevitably repeats the errors of those enumerated and the enumerators themselves. Of course, ideally we would have some way of annotating these records where we have more information about the individual, but I realise that this is non-trivial (though I do wonder if a self-service wiki would be something we could all contribute to, either on Gary's site or my 14+ site). In the meantime, many thanks to all concerned. By the way, I must apologise, but it looks as if I won't be able to make the 7th July meeting - I have to take my daughter on a university open day. 3. Dear Charles, Forgive me for sending this to the list, but I'm hoping you will read this as your Museum email address is returning my message. I have been contacted by a lady who wants to come to the Museum on Tuesday of next week to look through the records upstairs to help trace her Owen/Button ancestry. She wants to know if this is possible. Can you let me know if it is? Or does she need to make arrangements with someone- you?- first? Best wishes, Josie

    3. Dear Bob, Excellent! I'll take on the 1851 census in that case. I have a transcription that, I think, Jon (Chaplin) produced a while ago, which should certainly speed things along. Perhaps, to ease the workload, we could make the 1901 census a group effort? 3. I haven't any plans to do any of the censuses, but if any of you want to give me a section to do of any of them, I'm happy to do it. Josie
