    2. Jon Chaplin
    3. Good Morning All I agree with all that has been said. I propose that Gary Samson be our Acting Chairman (and acting treasurer), and that Josie Mackie be our Acting Secretary. Of course this needs seconding and the agreement of at least a substantial number of the 14+ Group. It can only be formalised when we have agreed a constitution. Best Wishes to All of You - Jon (Acting Woodchurch Liaison Office ?) -----Original Message----- From: Gary Samson [mailto:gsamson@goldbern.co.uk] Sent: 11 July 2007 23:08 To: Jennie Light Cc: Jon Chaplin; 'Josie Mackie' Subject: Re: Woodchurch 14+ Group You're absolutely right, Jennie. We shall need a committee, particularly if we are to apply for funding to help out with our activities; most grant-awarding bodies expect this. We shall also need a formal structure. This all sounds very dry, onerous and bureaucratic, but it is very much a means to an end, and there's no reason why our informal meetings at the museum (and elsewhere) have to change very much at all. As a minimum, we shall need a chair, treasurer and secretary. We'll also need a constitution, which I've already offered to draft for comments. We'll also need to consider carefully how the group relates to the eng-ken-woodchurch mailing list, which, for many, is just that--a mailing list. Someone who subscribes one day and disappears the next, having had their research question answered by one of us, clearly has a different status to you or Josie or Jon, who would quite rightly expect to have more influence in the way the group is run. Some kind of formal (paid?) membership might help to clarify this distinction, but again this is something we need to discuss as a group. It may be that most of these issues can be resolved online, so do please keep these comments and suggestions coming. 1. [ENG-KEN-WOODCHURCH] Make a donation to the Woodchurch Ancestry Group
    2. Gary Samson
    3. Dear All, If you've found the Woodchurch Local and Family History website (www.goldbern.co.uk/woodchurch) useful for your research, you might like to consider making a donation to the Woodchurch Ancestry Group (www.goldbern.co.uk/woodchurch/donate.html). The group is largely responsible for the content on the website, and your donation will help to fund the group's activities. There are two ways you can do this: * You can buy something online from Amazon.co.uk * You can donate online via PayPal Amazon The Woodchurch Local and Family History website is a member of the Amazon.co.uk Associates Programme. Through this programme the Woodchurch Ancestry Group benefits from a small commission whenever you buy something online using the link on the Donate page (www.goldbern.co.uk/woodchurch/donate.html). You enjoy the exactly the same prices and discounts as if you had gone directly to Amazon, but, by using this link, Amazon gives the Woodchurch Ancestry Group a small percentage of the sale. PayPal You can also donate online via PayPal. This is a secure and trusted internet banking system that we use for the sale of 'Woodchurch Then & Now', and our other local history publications: 'A Stroll Around the Green' and 'Fear & Fun'. All you need to do is click the 'Make a Donation' button on the Donate page (www.goldbern.co.uk/woodchurch/donate.html). Please note that, as with all credit card operators, PayPal takes a small commission from your donation before it reaches us. Best wishes Gary Samson Canterbury, Kent

    2. Gary Samson
    3. Dear Peter, I'm sorry not to have met you on Saturday, having exchanged e-mails with you for quite a while now. Hopefully we'll meet next time. We seem to have been thinking along identical lines. I had considered buying the woodchurchancestry.org.uk domain yesterday evening, but I wanted to be sure that everyone, particularly those members involved in setting up the Woodchurch 14+ Group, were happy with the proposed name change. From the activity on eng-ken-woodchurch today I'm delighted that it appears everyone is. I've now bought and registered woodchurchancestry.org.uk on behalf of the group. It will be hosted by a different service provider to the one hosting goldbern.co.uk. This new package has a higher bandwidth and larger monthly traffic allowance, and should provide more than sufficient room for the website to develop over the coming year. I agree with you that it would make sense for our two sites to merge onto this new domain, so that anyone looking for information relating to Woodchurch history would just need to visit and browse the Woodchurch Ancestry site. Quite how we'll manage this we should, perhaps, discuss off list, but your assistance would be very welcome. Best wishes Gary Peter Walker said the following on 11.07.2007 10:14: > Gary, > > I'm sorry I couldn't get to the meeting due to a last minute priority > interrupt! > > I support the change of name and will reflect that in my website. I have no objection to changing the name to the 'Woodchurch Ancestry Group' Best wishes Georgina -----Original Message----- From: eng-ken-woodchurch-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-ken-woodchurch-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Gary Samson Sent: 11 July 2007 08:48 To: eng-ken-woodchurch@rootsweb.com Subject: [ENG-KEN-WOODCHURCH] Woodchurch 14+ Group Dear All, Some of the long-standing list members will know that the creation of this mailing list was an initiative of the Woodchurch 14+ Group--an offshoot of the Woodchurch Local History Society (WLHS)--whose members' main interests lie in researching the local and family history of the village. The group's online presence at www.goldbern.co.uk/woodchurch and woodchurch.hollyer.name are two outlets for these efforts. Following the group's meeting at the Woodchurch Village Life Museum last weekend, it has been suggested that the '14+' element of the group's title inadequately captures the predominently research-focused interests of its members. An alternative title, the 'Woodchurch Ancestry Group', has already received positive responses from members who attended the meeting, so I am now circulating this proposal to the members of eng-ken-woodchurch for comment. If there are no strong objections or suggestions for alternative titles, the 'Woodchurch 14+ Group' will become the 'Woodchurch Ancestry Group' from Sunday 15 July, and this title will be used both for the organising group of the 2008 'Woodchurch in 1871' exhibition and a number of other initiatives planned for the next twelve months, of which more later. Gary, I'm sorry I couldn't get to the meeting due to a last minute priority interrupt! I support the change of name and will reflect that in my website. The second issue that I often think about is whether it would be more helpful for members to have just a single website about Woodchurch, rather than two. We could buy a suitable domain name (as an alias), such as www.woodchurchancestry.org.uk (it is available). I would be happy to give up my site if this makes sense. I could assist in the management of the common site pages if you'd prefer. Any thoughts? Best, Peter Walker

All the best Gary Samson

    3. Hi everyone. Sorry I won't be able to make this. Will photos be taken? If so I'd love one of Jennie in costume.... maybe on the Woodchurch website? Good luck with it all & I hope sometime I will be able to make a contribution. 3. Hi Josie I had a chap (Trevor) the other day who contacted me stating he saw my message on Rootsweb regarding Francis King born 1870 in Woodchurch. He stated that his grandfather was Charles King the youngest son he believed of John King and Catherine Brown and if I could get in touch with him on any other info on his siblings. I advised that rather than I write out all the names and send to him via email to visit the Woodchurch online parish records. I told him that John and Catherine King amongst other children had a Charles Leonard King baptised 1891. He said he has been on the Woodchurch Online parish records and that his grandfather was Charles Ernest King - but there is (according to the Woodchurch Online records of baps, marriages and burials) a child called Ernest Charles King baptised 1891 (same day as Charles Leonard King) mother Emma Sophia but I did not get a reply. Thus I am very confused by all this and am not sure where his Charles Ernest King fits in with the parents John King and Catherine Brown. Perhaps other people on this mailing list know the answer to this. However, if it is not the same chap then be quite happy for you to give him my contact details.
