Hello everyone, thought I would introduce myself and let you know what I have found out so far...... My family of BASFORDS (Bassfords) appear to originate in Fen Drayton and the immediate surrounding area. On the 1901 census (yes I did manage to access it once, the day before it officially became live!) my g grandfather gave his birth town as Peterbrough but the only Joseph BASFORD that I can find that fits the date and is around that area is registered in St Ives. On his marriage certificate (he married Elizabeth Rachel BROWN in Stockton on Tees in 1884) his fathers name is William and on the 1881 census I can find a William, Elizabeth, Joseph and Robert living in the High Street, St Ives, running a grocers/bakery store. If this is the right family I can trace them back to about 1699 within that same area. If this rings any bells with anyone I would love to hear from you.
