    3. Hi Judy, David, and Kin, You've encountered one of the most frustrating things in my research, which covers several areas of the UK. I've been completely stymied by St Neots, and next door Eynesbury, prior to 1841, except for some transcribed burials and marriage index entries. Indexes and transcriptions are nice, where they exist, but in all my researches, I've felt its important to verify information in the original records. Across the river Great Ouse, in Eaton Socon, I have access to just about everything, but when mine moved across the little bridge to St Neots or Eynesbury, they just disappear. Beyond the frustration is a great fear I have that the original parish register books lie unfilmed, and handled far more than they should. I'm trying to work with the Freereg project to see who can be contacted locally, to get permission for someone to film these pages before they turn to dust. As a last resort, I'm thinking of hiring someone to copy the register page by page over a long time, and transcribing them myself. I just don't know what else to do. Any ideas on this subject are certainly welcome. I'm afraid just waiting for transcriptions from the local FHS will yield results only after my lifespan, and again, they're only transcriptions, not filmed copies of the original pages, which are far more useful. Thanks for putting up with my rant. :) Jim Bundy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judy Mann" <familytree91@yahoo.ca> To: <ENG-HUNTINGDON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 30, 2005 11:42 PM Subject: St. Neots Parish Records > Hello everyone, > > I'm wondering if anyone can tell me where to access the Church of > England parish records for St. Neots? > > I only see Independant and Wesleyan records listed in the LDS > catalogue. > > > Thank you > Judy > Canada > > Researching: WILES from St. Neots > > > > > > --------------------------------- > Post your free ad now! 3. Perhaps my memory is at fault, but I'm sure that Huntingdon Record Office has transcribed and indexed the registers. When I last saw them, they were still in loose-leaf form, but that was several years ago. I've also noticed Record Office staff keying transcription data into a computer, so I would hope that the St Neots transcripts are computerised. Has anyone asked the Record Office about the state of this project? It may be struggling due to lack of funding or other resources. Regards Steven Gibbs Bedford

    3. Hi Stephen, I do hope that's the case, and that St Neots is included. If not, I'd be willing to pay to have pages copied, as I stated before, and if the Record office did that by photographing pages first, that would be wonderful. I'm certainly not rich, but I could afford to contribute to the effort over time. In another area, I requested copies of pages, and some were just copied, but others were deemed to fragile to copy, and had to be photographed first. It made the copies more expensive for me, but I was happy to pay it, and know that these records are now captured, and the original records don't have to be handled any more.
