Hello List New to the list and to this part of the country. On the 1881 census I have John Stocker in Darlington, states he was born 1836 St Neots. Huntingdonshire.Painters Lab/Retired Pensioner, later census described as Army Pensioner so I believe he would have been in the Army sometime during the 1850s. I have looked at old files on Rootsweb and came across a census (1841) that had been posted on this list, in mentions a John Stocker born 1836 at Eaton Socom, parents were Francis and Sarah Stocker both 50 yrs. Is there anyone that can confirm whether he was the only John Stocker in the area, I have no idea how popular the surname is or was. I believe he moved north around 1861 to 1871. Thank you.
