An Edis Sharman (b. 1837 in Hunts) in my mother's family was descended from Mary Edis (b. 1775 in Hunts), and Edis also occurs as a given name in Crowland, Lincs, from 1864 - in this case an Edis Cherrington. It's an unusual name and I'm pursuing the possibility of family ties between the two. The geographical area involved crosses couunty boundaries but is very small. Phoebe
