Hello Listers, I have just joined this list in the hope of finding somebody researching my GRAY family. Until recently I had thought that they originated in either Tempsford or Eaton Socon. However,it now seems this is not the case, and I am turning my attention to Buckden. I have found a John GRAY, age 57, living with his son William's family in Eaton Socon. John, born in Buckden, married a Sarah BARLEY, and settled in Eaton Socon. I think that John may have been the elder brother of my ancestor, Edward GRAY. I haven't managed to find Edward's baptism, but he married a Sarah SMITH in Eaton Socon, had a couple of children, moved to Shoreditch, and eventually died in Barts hospital in 1843. His widow Sarah returned to Eaton Socon with the family. After 25 years away I have wondered why, and I think the link is JOHN GRAY, as the first 4 children born to John and his wife, have the same christian names as the first 4 of Edward's children. My father told me his family came from St Neots, and having rung Huntingdon record office today, I am told it is very close to Buckden. I have been trying to find Edward for over 10 years, and perhaps seeing the above, you will realise I am getting desperate ! Thank you for taking the trouble to read my potted history.
