    1. James Farrington 1804
    2. Gillian, I should have stressed that although you said James married Mary in 1804. He in fact married Susannah Clarke of Sawtry. Their son James 1812-1894 married Mary Payne of King's Cliffe on 30 January, 1844. Alex

    1. Sawtry look-ups on Farrington
    2. Gillian, Good to hear from you again. I will certainly go to Huntingdon record office soon when the weather eases here and check the Sawtry records for the Farrington family. I can tell you now that James Farrington and Susannah Clarke were married at Winwick on 25 June, 1804. Susannah was baptized at All Saints, Sawtry on 3 January, 1779. I have not succeeded in finding the birth or baptism of James. James, their son, was born in 1812 and died in 1894. I have Thomas born in 1818 and John in 1820, baptized on January 23 in Winwick. I am sorry I cannot produce other detail now but I will pour over my five years of notes, and I promise to check soon at Huntingdon. Best wishes from a wintry east of England, Alex

    3. Hi List I am new to the list and would like to try and trace more of my great great grandparents John BAXTER (c1806-1877) and Lucy WEST(1800-1872). John BAXTER, according to the census, was born in Warboys c 1806, but I have not found any sign of him in the parish records. Perhaps he was born elsewhere and his family moved there when he was young. I would love to know where. He married Lucy WEST in 1828 in Old Hurst and by 1833 had moved to Hemingford Abbots where ggrandfather Samuel was born in 1833. He had an older half-brother John b. 1823 in Broughton, an older sister, Elizabeth, b. Old Hurst abt 1829, who married James EVERETT in HA in 1853. Lucy WEST (b 1800 in Broughton) was the daughter of Joseph WEST and Anne. They were not married in Broughton and he was not born there but they were both buried there. Joseph WEST was born abt 1762 and Anne abt 1760. I have found a possible marriage for a Joseph WEST and an Anne MARRINGTON not far away in Wistow in 1787. Joseph is said to be from Hilton. I would love to have any further info on this. Joseph and Anne have 8 children in Broughton between 1794 and 1811. Grandson Joseph WEST and his wife Rhoda seem to be there in 1881 as does granddaughter Fanny WEST and husband Thomas DICKERSON. I should be grateful for any leads offered! Philippa in Brighton

    1. Elizabeth REEVE born Colne
    2. Hello listers I am a new subscriber to this list looking for information on my GG Grandmother Elizabeth REEVE who from details in various censuses was born about 1808 in Colne. By 1829 she was living in Necton, Norfolk and in that year married John ELLIS there. I'd be delighted to hear from anybody with knowledge of a REEVE family in Colne or who has access to the Parish Registers for Colne. Hopefully waiting Shelagh

    3. Hi Alison, how was your week, not too hectic I hope. I visited the website you gave me in your last email.I found it quite interesting. Anyway it sounds like a good idea to deal with what info you have first, then work backwards. That way I will be able to double check what I might already have. My Aunt Betty,George's great great granddaughter is pretty tickled to think we have a link with the past. bye for now Violet -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 1. The elusive John GOODWIN
    2. Ron Goodwin
    3. I am resubmitting this request one year after I originally submitted as I had no luck in obtaining any information then. Perhaps someone has joined the list since then who can shed some light on this elusive man. Thank you. I am trying to find out the when and where of the birth of my GGGgrandfather John GOODWIN but am having no success at all. He is not in IGI, BVRI2 or his burial in NBI. He apparently married a Sarah BULL [born St. Neots] in Little Paxton in 1817, they had three children in Great Paxton between 1821 and 1826 and they moved to live in Godmanchester so I expect he originated from that general area of Huntingdonshire. I have found no connection with GOODWINs from other areas, i.e. Gt Gidding. But come the 1841 census he was dead! He was a cordwainer by trade. If I cannot find him then I cannot go any further back in my direct line. Parish registers are notorously difficult to come by for Huntingdonshire, but then again I wouldn't know exactly where to search for him. Judging by his marriage year he would have been born about 1797ish, and Sarah was declared as 50 in the 1841 census. Any ideas please? Regards Ron Goodwin, Chorley, Lancs.

    1. Sutton and Beetles in St Ives
    2. Brian Davis
    3. Thanks to much kind assistance from around the world, I'm now further along with my Sutton family in and around St Ives. I now know that: Thomas and Elizabeth SUTTON had four children born in St Ives William King, 1800 Ann, 1803 Marianne, 1805 Sarah King, 1807 Ann Sutton married John James REEVE in St Ives in 1828, my gt gt grandparents Thomas SUTTON of Hartford and Elizabeth BEETLES were married in Grafham, Hunts in 1795. So, if anyone knows anything about the Beetles family in Hunts or knows anything of a link between the surnames SUTTON and KING I'd be delighted to hear from them. Thanks to all the correspondents who've brought me this far. Brian Davis in Auckland, New Zealand

    3. Dear Alison As promised here is some of what I have on George and Elizabeth Smart. They moved to Camden from Sydney and finally settled at Nangus Creek just out of Gundagai in New South Wales.George became a farmer and the farm is still in our family today. Their sons James and William settled in the same place, the farm was divided between James and William, both building homes on the property. Hepzibah disappeared from the scene and no-one knows what happened to her. George died on 17/11/1885 and Elizabeth on18/2/1899. James married Elizabeth Jane Norris at Camden in 1862, she was born Jan.1841.daughter of Smasom Norris and Sarah Reed they had 11 children, Mary 29/11/1863; Caroline Ada 5/6/1864; Alice Mary 26/7/1866; Elizabeth Jane 31/1/1869; Charles Norris 25/3/1871;(my gr father) Eleanor 1873; Sarah Ann 29/11/1875?; James 26/2/1877; Maria 24/9/1879; William Henry 19/8/1885? 3. Hi there I'm new to this list but subscribe to a few others and admin to a couple. Helping a friend to unravel his Ditchfield family line and we have found a marriage in March 1869 to a Marianne LOMBERS and the 1871 census shows she is from Ramsey? Huntingdonshire. We haven't got the marriage certificate yet as we only found it last night. We've had a look on Free BMD but can't find a birth, can anybody shed a little light on the family and location. Many thanks Mickey

    3. Dear Alison Thanks for your email, yes I have excel,so send away. I am so happy to finally find some one that is researching the same families as me. George and Elizabeth left London for Sydney on 30/8/1852,on the ship "Wilson Kennedy," shipmaster was Thomas Hobson. They arrived in Sydney on 27/12/1852. If you could come up with a birth date for William and Sarah, would be great as I am only guessing when I said 1790 George's birth year is 1815, I should know the rest of it, as he is my gr. gr.grandfather and is buried in the Nangus cemetery along with nearly all his decendants, he died between 17th & 30th Nov. 1885.He used to like a bit of a drink and would walk over the hills to the nearest pub,get roaring drunk, then walk home.He did this once to often and it was two weeks before he was found. He was 71. Elizabeth died 18/2/1899 aged 92.They were married on 2/11/1835, at Hail Weston. They had five children when they left to come to Australia, James 15;George 13; Hepzibah 11; William 6; and Elizabeth 3, she died on the way out. look forward to hearing from you soon Cheers Violet
