Hi List Friends: I have a family bible record noting the marriage of William Gimbert to Sarah Camps on May 12, 1844. I'm not sure of the village or parish. The first son, Samuel, was born March 22, 1845 in "Huntingdon, Hunts" and a daughter Victoria soon afterward on Jan 25, 1846, in Bluntisham, Hunts. Subsequent children were born in London. Is anyone able to find for me a reference to this Gimbert-Camps marriage? It might even have taken place in Ely or Sutton, Cambridgeshire. I'm also interested in the 1845 birth of the son Samuel, although he must have died quite young. I do have Victoria's birth certificate already. Much appreciated! Jill in Canada

Hi List, my ancestors Roger Attwood and Mary (probably with surname Brown) married around 1825-1829 (most likely in Huntingdonshire). After their marriage Roger and Mary lived at St. Ives, Huntingdonshire, where Roger was a tailor. Can anyone help me in finding their marriage record and what it says? Athol (Brisbane, Australia)

Some of the Markhams listed here are definitely mine, and probably including Mary Markham, who as a single woman gave birth to Edward at The Union Workhouse. Must have been a tough situation for her, and wonder if the baby would be able to be with her, at least until it was weaned? The Oakleys here are probably mine also, but have to study that a bit also. Hi Gillian I've just read your earlier post re 1851. In 1861 there is only one one Wrighton, as opposed to Royton, born in Hargrave - Sarah J Wrighton age 18 servant, living in Knotting Beds. The age is right for her to have been a sister of William. Have you checked Hargrave parish register which if you find them should give you their mother's name? If you can get a birth cert that would be even better as you would get her maiden name. regards David > Message du 08/08/05 17:06 > De : "alan beavis" <alan.beavis@ntlworld.com> > A : ENG-HUNTINGDON-L@rootsweb.com > Copie à : > Objet : WRIGHTON - KIMBOLTON > > Would SKS please look up William Wrighton (1) born about 1814 at Kimbolton, Huntingdon, on the 1841 Census. Hi Alan I couldn't see any Wrightons in Kimbolton in 1841, but I wasn't really expecting to see either of your Williams, for if William was born in 1840/41 in Hargrave Northants I would have thought that Hargrave would be the place to start looking. Have you posted a request on the Northants board? William was aged 20 and 30 on the 1861 and 1871 censuses living with Emma at Kimbolton and Graffham respectively. But I couldn't see a William in 1861 age 47 born at Kimbolton. Do you have the 1840 marriage cert which will give you William senior's occupation? Hi Kerri I can't see John and Sarah in Sawtrey in 1841, but one of the districts which makes up Sawtrey is of pretty poor quality so is difficult to make out names. Could you post the names and birth years of the children so I have a second chance of finding them, and also what the address was in Sawtrey in 1851 where John and Sarah were found? The more information you give the better the chances of getting a result. Names I have found Sawtrey St Andrew John Sissman 20 farmer Sarah Sissman 25 Both born in Hunts (definitely 20 and 25 so unless the enumerator made an error not the older John and Sarah) (the first s of the double s in Sissman is written in the style of the times, like a modern day f - I imagine this is what you have regarding the marriage and it's been mistranscribed as an f) Thomas Hitchcock 35 shoe maker b in Hunts Elizabeth Hitchcock 40 Not b in Hunts David Sissman 15 Shoe makers apprentice b in Hunts North Rd Lodge Sawtrey St Judith Thomas Sisman 25 ag lan b in Hunts Martha Sisman 25 milliner b Hunts Archers Wood lodge Sawtrey St Judith Eliza Caynor 25 William Caynor 6 William Sisman 9 All born in Hunts Sawtrey Green, St Judith William Sisman 45 ag lab Esther Sisman 40 John Sisman 20 ag lab William Sisman 15 ag lab Mary Sisman 12 George Sisman 9 All b in Hunts Sawtrey All Saints Entry ruled through Thomas Sisman 23 ag lab Sarah Sisman 22 Both b in Hun ts Benjamin Sisman?18 ruled through replaced by 15 Shoe maker b in Hunts Ages over 15 in 1841 should have been rounded down to the nearest 5 below - hence presumably the enumerator's amendment to Benjamin's age. Hello Kathy I'm not an expert on these registers so there may be further information somewhere but here is my understanding of the situation: The original of the Inland Revenue Apprentices Registers are held at The National Archives at Kew. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ They have an information leaflet about the records here: http://tinyurl.com/7cjl7 TNA can carry out research for you, or you can have an independant researcher visit Kew on your behalf. More information here: http://tinyurl.com/72q5q Microfiche copies of indexes of masters', and of apprentices' names will be found in the Microfilm Reading Room [at TNA]. These are copies of those created and held by the Society of Genealogists, and a further set of copies are in the Guildhall Library, London. The indexes are also online on the SoG pay-per-view website http://www.britishorigins.com/ but you only see the first and last name on each page of the index, not all the names, and they are not in strict alphabetical order either so you cannot be sure that an name you are searching for is actually in the index. There is not one register per county, each register is compiled from returns from collectors, each of whom covered a certain area, any one page of the register can include returns from a number of different collectors and hence areas. Archive CD Books has reproduced the registers on a number of CD ROMs, you can find out more here: http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/Apprentice_Records.html Good luck Colin Moretti I'm a member of the Anglo-Italian Family History Society http://www.anglo-italianfhs.org.uk Looking for MORETTI, PAGLIANO, BARGMAN, in London CADWELL & MILLER in Cambridgeshire & Huntingdon TYAS, IVESON, WOOD, ABBOTT in Yorkshire ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathy Irwin" <condor@texasonline.net> To: <ENG-HUNTINGDON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 02, 2005 1:52 AM Subject: IR Apprentices Register > Hello People, > Would anyone happen know where the Inland Revenue Apprentices Register for > Huntingdonshire might be held and if there's an e-mail address to use to > contact them?
