    3. Has anyone done any research into the Great Gransden Baptists registers or has access to them ? ,. My forebears were early dissenters mostly in Gamlingay Cambs . but have lost their track late 1600's early 1700's but know that a marriage occurred in Little Gransden and was hoping that someone could reconnect me with my direct line of Wil(l)sons . Anyway Hello to this list from Mick Wilson .

    2. Nigel Penton Tilbury
    3. Hi Andrew, Before the Mormons are allowed to film PRs, each incumbent of every parish has the right to veto the matter and historically this was exercised frequently in our neck of the woods. This was more to do with the religious objection to the Mormons acquiring n million devotees, dead or alive, than as a deliberate act to make the lives of subsequent genealogist a misery! These days some ministers have a slightly more relaxed view but still retain these rights, and the Hunts RO will permit access for filming but only when the owners of the PRs (the Church) give a formal release. (This is a simplistic overview because there are many issues which govern ownership vs. curatorship.) As Janet says, most of the Huntingdonshire IGI has been submitted by individuals and at best can only be considered as secondary source, but often an _extremely_ welcome device to point one in the right direction. Always remember that "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence"! 3. To Andrew, The IGI does not have many records for Hunts because the Hunts record office did not allow the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to film the records. Most of the Hunts entries will have been submitted by individuals. Janet

    3. Andrew, The IGI is only a partial compiled list of references in essence. Like most other rsearch you should head towards the root sources rather than a reference. As an addendum to the IGI the LDS published a CD entitled British Vital Resources which compliments the information in the IGI and has a fair number of entries for HUnts but is by no means complete. Take a look at the resources available from Hunts FHS. That may help you. 3. Hello List, I have noticed other requests for Sawtry Look-ups and wondered if there is someone with a copy of the PRs who could please do one for me? My gtgrandmother was Sarah BATTISON born abt 1801 (married William BARNES from Huntingdon in 1824) I would be most grateful for her baptism and parents. I also have the marriages of an Elizabeth BATTISON to Isaac WHEATLY 1815 and Letitia BATTERSON and James FELCH 1817 and would like to know if they were related to Sarah? This is the period before fathers' names were given. Otherwise if the PRs are available for sale I would be happy to purchase a copy and do the look ups myself. Can anyone help or advise me? Thanks, Judy in Gloucestershire Researching BARNES in Huntingdon, Carpenters and Shoemakers in the High Street during 19C.

    3. Hi all, I am a new member and thought I'd pop in and introduce myself and my Huntingdon connections. I have a Margaret Allen who was born 1864 in Huntingdon to George Allen and Maria nee Baker. Margaret was born Connington and had siblings named Mary, George, William, John, Edith and Rosa. George (father) was the son of William Allen and Martha nee Hill. He was born 1829 and had siblings Thomas, William, Jeremiah, John and Mary. There is quite a story about the Margaret above as she married a William Allis in 1884 in Lincoln and had three children to him before leaving him and travelling to Australia with another man and having a family out here with him. All very interesting and I certainly wish I could have a talk to her and find out her reasons for doing so!
