Could anyone advise me where I might find a map of 1800 England. I have no idea of the geography of this country (I live in the US) and it would make it easier when trying to understand the places of my ancestors. They were from St. Ives Huntingdon, Dawlish, Brampton. I would appreciate any help out there. Suzanne Ringer

Helen, the best place for out of print/obscure books is www.abebooks.com. Second-hand booksellers put their catalogues on the site and then you can phone the seller direct if they have it. I have found a couple of childhood books this way. I also found some old local history books and the sellers are always willing to answer questions before you buy. You can search by author or keyword to turn up the book you need. I have just looked at Ekins but they do not have the book you seek. the British Library hold copies of every book published but I don't know how feasible it would be to search with them - or if it is, indeed, possible. Suzanne, Could you be referring to the St Ives, Meeting Lane, Independent (formerly Presbyterian)? If so I understand that BIRTHS are extracted and on the IGI covering the period 1742 - 1807 and there are copies on microfiche of the BIRTHS and BAPTISMS at the Huntingdon Record Office covering the same period. Finally, it is alleged that the original records listed above are available at the PRO in the series RG4/8, RG4/74 and RG4/678 series. Can someone please tell me any information on these two towns and where they are located in relation to Warboys. Are they two separate towns or is Old Hurst a reference to Woodhurst? I have a grandfather George Ekins (not sure yet how many greats) who was born (abt 1787) and raised on a farm in Woodhurst, but I have heard of references to Old Hurst as well. My grandfather lived there and was married near there (early 1800's) to Sarah Hobson. Sarah died before George moved his family of 5 young children to The Manor at Warboys. He remarried on 10 Feb 1818 to Rebecca Hempstead from Pidley, Bedford and they lived in The Manor at Warboys. I have heard that Sarah was buried in the churchyard located in front of The Manor at Warboys. George died 28 September 1841 and left his second wife with 11 children (5 from the first marriage and 6 from he second) in The Manor. Greetings! Does anyone have any connection with the SAINT or INGLETT families from around the Somersham area? My wife's Great Grandmother Mary Jane SAINT was born in Somersham in 1857 and married William GATHERCOLE there in 1878. Mary Jane was the daughter of Henry SAINT (b.1825) and Ann INGLETT (b.1824). (Ann was the daughter of John and Mary INGLETT). I'd be very grateful for and info in these families..... Thanks, Graham. Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex.
I have come across a xeroxed copy of a book some relative of mine wrote. The Author is "Pattie C. Ekins" the book was published around early 1900's. I would like to know the title of the book as it is not listed anywhere in the xerox copy that i have. I know there is a book in existence in a library in Cambridge (know I have no idea which one and there are probably a few of them) and I also know that a resident in Warboys has a copy as well. The book is about Pattie's life in the The Manor at Warboys and then later on in Cambridge. If anyone happens to come across this book could they please let me know the title of the book. It has some valuable family data in there and I can't reference a book that I don't know the title of. Any suggestions on how to reference the book if I don't have the title? Also can anyone please tell me what county Wymondley is in? This place is referenced a few times in the book as where an aunt and uncle lived and she would visit. This church is so close to the pub next door that I am suspicious! My PIGGOTTs were heavily involved in both. Does anyone know anything about the establishment of the church, ie land deeds, donations? I'd be very interested. I am researching William PLANT (b 1815) of Great Bowden, LEI. He seems to have been a very itinerant sort, never staying in one place much longer than a year or so. He seems to have traveled widely, leaving his mark in Beds, Leics, Northants, Hunts and Cambs during the course of his life. Here's what's known: No baptismal record exists for William PLANT in Grt Bowden. Either he was not baptised at birth, not baptised there or is mistaken as to his place of birth or was born in a place other than where he was baptised. William PLANT is thought to have married Sarah ELLABY(b 1813, Elton Hunts) after 1832, but no marriage has been found yet. Two known issue : Eliza b 1847 Glapthorn Northants and Letitia b 1853/4 Wisbech Cambs. These 4 people are found in Somerby LEI on the 1871 census. William and Sarah are found in Nassington Northants on the 1881 census, with no children. William was living in Nassington Northants in 1884 when Sarah died. William died in 1900 in Yaxley Hunts, the death being registered by a son-in-law William KIRKBY. Assumptions: In the 1881 census, a William KIRKBY from Elton Hunts and a Sarah b 1842 Great Barford Beds. are living with 6 children in Nassington, Northants. In the 1871 census, William PLANT is living on the same street as William E. PLANT, born 1841 in Great Barford Beds. I suspect the "E" is for ELLABY. I also suspect that William E. and Sarah (wife of Wm. KIRKBY) are the eldest children of William PLANT and Sarah ELLABY. I need help to locate the marriage of William PLANT and Sarah ELLABY as well as to locate the whereabouts of the family in 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1891 censuses. Is there anyone who can lookup the baptisms of William E. and Sarah in Gt. Barford, Beds., to confirm they are in fact connected as I suspect? A lookup for the baptism of Letitia in Wisbech, Cambs. would be appreciated also. William PLANT was recorded as a brickmaker on occasion, are there any records of brickmakers? Talk about hitting a brick wall! Any further suggestions on reducing the enormity of the searching over such a wide area and large time-frame would be appreciated. Grant Baines Uxbridge/Canada
Hi Wendy, I believe the Parish Records for Brampton are held at Huntingdon Record Office. I had a quick search on the web and couldnt find any on microfiche for you to purchase. I often drop into the Huntingdon Records Office on my way home from work so if I can help with any specific look-up, please let me know. I only have limited time so I couldnt do any blanket searches but would be happy to help. Regards Barbara
Would anyone please be able to tell me where I can view the Parish Records for Brampton. If it is only at the Records office can you recommend a researcher for me as I'm in Australia. Is it possible to get through LDS or buy the fische. Thanks Wendy
