Hi from New Zealand I am new to this list and am looing for links regarding my g.g.grandfather Evelyn Alfred HASTINGS. He married in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1876, aged 35 which would have him being born about 1841. I have no date or place of birth. Family believe that he was the first born son of the Earl of Huntingdon but he never wanted to return to England. Can anyone on this list enlighten me as to the relationship between 'Huntingdonshire' and the 'Earl of Huntingdon'. Is anyone there linked to the Earl of Huntingdon in their tree and can let me know if my Evelyn Alfred actually was his son??? I also have a word of mouth source that Evelyn was a "Runholder" in Cannock Chase, Staffordshire. Also the name 'Maryvale Hall' is mentioned, but I can't work out the relationship with Cannock Chase, if there is one. Can anyone help me or head me in the right general direction please. TIA Sandy HASTINGS Christchurch, New Zealand

I am also new to this list. I am interested in the Speechley family in Yaxley. My ancestor Susan Speechley was born there c.1810. She married William Cox,from Conington, at Yaxley in 1833 and he was buried there in 1835. I would be pleased to here from anyone researching the same families. Mary Prentice
Hi everybody, This is an off-topic posting which appears with the kind permission of the Listowner Do you have theatrical ancestors or have knowledge of them? Why not join the THEATRE-UK mailing list. How to subscribe. Send a message to [email protected] or for Digest mode - [email protected] that contains (in the body of the message) the command subscribe and no additional text. Researching family history can be difficult at the best of times. Researching ancestors who were actors, music hall performers etc. can be a real pain! They were never in one place for very long, they changed their names to suit themselves and very often they weren't particularly accurate about their age. This list is for the discussion of theatre history. The buildings, the troupes, the actors and players, the acts and the plays. With luck you might find the little snippet of information you need to track down your elusive ancestor, or maybe a list-member can provide you with some details of your ancestors career. Regards, Dave Jassie - List Administrator for the THEATRE-UK and the JASSIE surname lists.
Hello everyone, I am somewhat new to the list. Have been receiving the digest, but decided to try the *longer* versons. My area of interest is Yaxley/Whittlesey, so I am wondering if this is the correct list to be subscribing to. If not, could SKS direct me to the correct one. Once I know for sure, I shall post the surnames I am attempting to research. TIA, Trena.

I wonder if somebody can help. I am looking for David and Matthew Tabbitt who left Huntingdonshire for Illinois between 1883-1891. There is a mention of these two names on the World Family Tree Volume #3 - Tree #2528 If anybody has this CD and can do a lookup I would be extremely grateful. Hello listers, Does anyone have any information on medical schools during the early 1800's? Robert ASKEW was a doctor (died 1859 Brampton as a retired surgeon at age 64). I haven't been able to find his birth (by calculation he was born in 1794/95) yet, but he has a brother Thomas born/baptised St. Ives in 1802. I'm wondering where he might have had his schooling and if there may be any records that have survived. It is possible that Thomas was also a doctor, although when he came to America in 1831 he took up farming. I would appreciate any guidance. Thanks, Suzanne Ringer Ballston Spa, NY USA
