    1. Needingworth/Illinois emigration
    2. Peter Tabbitt
    3. I should be pleased to hear from anybody who has had family who emigrated from Needingworth to Illinois as there appears to be a number of villagers who went in the second half of the 19th century. David and Matthew Tabbitt and their families emigrated in 1885 to join their half-brother John Norman who arrived around 1868. A family letter (1894) mentions other Needingworth people who also emigrated to the same area, namely: William Beaumont, William Circus (Cirkis), Charles Ayres, Harriet Norman and ?? Kidman. The places mentioned are Peotone, Kankakee, Askhum and Chicago. My questions are why Needingworth to Illinois? Who was the first to go? Were there agents involved? Any help, information or comment would be most appreciated. Peter Tabbitt Tabbitt Genealogy: www.tabbitt.fsbusiness.co.uk

    1. Re: NEWBOUND
    2. Hello from one Elaine to another. A couple of thoughts occurred to me when reading your note. 1. Could Jeremiah have been a second name with the boy christened under his "real" name eg James Jeremiah Newbound 2. Do you know for certain they were CofE? Someone will correct me if I am wrong but the baptism registers didn't cover churches like the methodist, catholics etc. 3. He might have been the subject of a spelling mistake. 4. they could have had him christened in an adjacent parish or elsewhere if they were visiting family. Do they have other family living in other parishes. 5. Was he christened at all. Maybe he was lawless in later life because he started out as ungodly! 6. Was he illegitimate. Maybe he was registered as a Denton and on his parents later marriage, he took his father's surname. 7. Might he be listed in other parish records besides baptism registers. Would workhouses, poor laws etc have been around then? 8. Genuki holds lists of people willing to do look-ups in certain areas or in certain documents. Have you checked whether anyone holds additional records for that area? That's all I can think of. I hope the list can help with some more. Yours, Elaine Saunders

    1. NEWBOUND
    2. Hello Listers I am up against a brick wall and don't know where to look next, so I'm hoping SKS can point me in the right direction. Jeremiah NEWBOUND married Elizabeth DENTON in St Ives in 1795. The first child that I can find appears in 1799 in March, Cambridgeshire, and they went on to have lots more children, one of whom was convicted of a crime and transported to Australia. My gg grandfather was also Jeremiah NEWBOUND and I am convinced, because of other family names in both families, that he was the first son of Jeremiah and Elizabeth. However, a search of the St Ives baptism registers between 1789 and 1799 has failed to find him. My question is are there any registers, indexes or lists where I can search to try and find the birth? Can I ever assume that the two Jeremiahs are father and son? I would really love to connect these two Jeremiahs because, if I can, I have a whole new family waiting for me in Australia!! Many thanks Elaine In a hot and sticky Oxfordshire *********** [email protected] Researching: Newbound: London, Surrey, Huntingdon, Cambridge Spinner: London, Kent, Illinois USA Howell: London, Hampshire Roberts: London, Surrey .

    2. Philip & Eileen Adkins
    3. I'm looking for information about Charles BARKER (abt 1802-1838) and Martha HARDING (abt 1806-?). Charles was a blacksmith in St Neots and died there in 1838 aged only 36. Martha moved her family to Great Houghton in Northamptonshire before 1851. Does anyone else have an any knowledge of this couple? In particular I would like to establish that they had a daughter Sarah born about 1826. Bye now, Eileen

    1. Guylott WALTON - St. Ives
    2. Gordon Walton
    3. I have got details of Guylott (or Gaylott) WALTON (born Needingworth) living in Church St., St. Ives in 1881, foreman of brickyard. His wife, Sarah Ann, children, Elizabeth Ann, J. Arthur, M.A. Emma, Wm Gaylott, H. George WALTON. I have a feeling that there may have been another child not listed (possibly Eliza WALTON) which maybe in the St.Ives 1871 Census. Could anyone with access to the 1871 St Ives Census advise me if there are other children belonging to Guylott and Sarah Ann not listed above? Many thanks Gordon (from Sydney, Australia) ([email protected])
