Dear Listers, On-line and searchable is a new database of Known Wisbech Vessels between 1860-1913. Here you cand find the vessel name, number, year of rerefence, when the journey started and end, details of documents which might relate to Family Research and the box & reference number of the documents held at the Cambridge Record Office. Normally this information contains details of the ship and its cargo so where there is no reference then this should be the case. Hello list, Would it be possible for someone to check the 1891 and census for the following address. My great grandparents Henry Charles Broughton and Lily Priscilla Sales are mentioned on their marriage certificate living at 8 Grove Cottages,Manor Street,Chelsea(County?) in 1899,Henry lived at Plumstead Rd,Plumstead Kent when he was little and Lily lived at 15 Coupland Terrace,Plumstead, Kent. Do these places still exist? If by chance anyone has any information,I would greatly appreciate it. Thanking you in advance Paul Broughton
I am researching a couple of names which both have ties to Midloe, Gt. Staughton, and Southoe (RUFF and HILLS). I am currently searching for a Thomas HILLS b. abt. 1781 (md. Harriet BOND). He wasn't born in Southoe, but he died there are lived for a time in Midloe. Everything I've read shows Midloe with a notation e.p. (does this mean ex-parish)? Does anyone know if the the parishes of Midloe and Gt. Staughton were consolidated? Are there any records extant for Midloe separate from Gt. Staughton (besides censuses)? If anyone knows about the history of Midloe, I would appreciate some clues. Thanks for any assistance - Robin Ruff Van Wagenen - USA ([email protected])

My thanks to the several persons that responded to my question re midwives and the care of the deceased. I had no idea that was a function that midwives provided in the past. Jim Bundy
I have traced my grandfather's family, the Medlocks, back to 1821 in Norfolk, but feel that they moved to Norfolk around this time. I am looking for a Richard Medlock born about 1790, may have been ten years either way. He married Martha Balders in Gt Massingham Norfolk, in 1821, but I feel he may have moved from Huntingdon and been married before his marriage to Martha.. I am also looking for the birth of Richard Medlock about 1810 (he was 41 on the 1851 census, born in Ramsey Huntingdonshire. Does anyone have a likely birth for him. I am totally stuck with the Medlocks and it would be such a help if someone could give me a pointer. Regards Susan
Besides the usual payments to the poor, and others for bills, there's a bunch of entries here for shoes (and 1 apron) to the poor. Also, we had a discussion at my FHC today regarding the Midwife. Is it possible that a midwife, in addition to her normal birthing duties, could have been involved in burial preparations ("laying")? I know the Widow Male died around this time. Could the mutton have been related to treating her while ill?
