    1. Rear Admiral Sir W.A. MONTAGU, Info and look-up sought, please
    2. Peter & Sharyn Johnson
    3. Greetings Listers ........ and G'day from Australia. I am searching for details of a very elusive MONTAGU Family, and I have little to go on. Especially after the BIRTH or BAPTISM of William Augustus MONTAGU, born about 1785, "Parish of Huntingdon". He is my g/g/g/g/grandfather (ain't he lucky!). All rather frustrating and surprising as he later become a highly decorated Rear Admiral. Problem is exascerbated as I cannot see a "Parish of Huntingdon" in the Huntingdon area today. Perhaps was so in the past. I have plenty of stuff on his career but zulch on his origin. I have done the rounds of IGI and varios surname sites, many queries, searches posts to lists, emails to various, and have come up with nothing. So if you can assist I will be very thankful indeed. Below is all I have, but I appreciate it may not be enough. To all and every one of you, thank you for your time either way. (My other Interests include JOHNSON, Isle of Wight). Regards, Peter Johnson. Newcastle, Australia. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vice Admiral Sir William Augustus MONTAGU, CB, KCH. William Augustus MONTAGU. Parents names and origins... Unknown. Born most probably in the year 1785 (d. 6/3/1852, aged 67, buried IOW) Parish Register of his marriage... at St John's, Northwood, Isle of Wight, Page 25, No73. indicates... "Bachelor, of the Parish of Huntingdon County of Huntingdon." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    2. JESSIE PITT
    3. Hello Hunts List, Does anyone have easy access to the records for Stibbington? I am not able to travel to Records Offices or Family History Centres at the moment, but would willingly buy fiche if they are available. I know that one branch of my Starsmores were there in 1861 and one of their children was born there in 1852 so would really like the 1851 census and the parish records checked. Kind Regards Jessie in Worksop, Nottinghamshire "Gateway to The Dukeries" Looking for STARSMORE anywhere, anytime Jessie's Home Pages http://www.familyorigins.com/users/p/i/t/Jessie-E-Pitt/

    1. Putterills of Kimbolton
    2. Annette Musker
    3. I'm delighted to say that our ancestor, John Turner, had the good sense to marry somebody with an unusual surname. Susanna Putterill married John Turner in 1827 in Kimbolton. By 1841 she appears to have been dead and he was living with her family of Putterills in George Lane. There is even a Putterill Yard where others of the family are residing. By 1851 every last Putterill had disappeared. I've been able to find some of them in the 1881 census, but I'd love to know where they were in 1851. If anybody falls across them, would you please let me know? Some of them were born in Kimbolton, others in Biggleswade in Bedfordshire - they seem to have moved between the two places. Cheers Annette of Wales

    1. Turners of Kimbolton
    2. Annette Musker
    3. Last night I had a very nasty shock. I discovered that the whole foundation on which I had built my TURNER family tree was rotten and that, far from being descended from a wealthy bookseller/printer from Coventry, my Turners are descended from a cooper from Bedford. However, before I pursue the Bedford connection, I need to clarify the parentage of a George Dennis Turner, b. 1852 in Kimbolton (according to the 1881 census), whose grandfather was John Turner the above-mentioned cooper. I have a nasty suspicion that George Dennis Turner will prove to be the illegitimate son of one of John Turner's daughters - probably Sarah, who was living with John at the time of the 1851 census and was then aged 23. If anyone has any interest in this particular family I'd love to hear from you and, if anyone has access to the 1861 census from Kimbolton, I'd love to know if the Turners were still living at 47 Church Yard then. Luckily, John Turner the cooper married a Susanna Putterill in Kimbolton on 20 February 1827, so that should be an easier name to trace. Cheers Annette of Wales

    3. Hi everyone I have just joined the list on discovering that my Great Grandfather James Webb's father Thomas Stammers Webb was born in St.Neots c1809 but was apparently christened with his son James in 1839 in Bishopsgate London. James' mother may have been Henrietta Dring born in Colchester, Essex. Thomas was a Coachman in 1861 and was living on Dividends in 1881. If anyone has knowledge of my Thomas or is researching the Webb family around St.Neots area I would be very pleased to hear from you. Regards Sandra Melbourne Australia
