Can anybody please help me? These two characters came to Stevenage and left their baby girl with the owners of the "Three Horshoes Pub Pin Green whilst they went off too market and never returned for her ! She was then bought up by them , the DAVEY Family and was known by that name, ELSIE DAVEY. When she was about 19yrs she fell pregnant by a young soldier and had a son ...Harry who is my Father.Sadly the father died in action so never came home ; this was in 1917. I cant find a birth certificate anywhere for him, either Davey or the surname of his father .....HESKINS. Any further information on this, or help much appreciated. Chris
Yes, I would also wonder if the birth wasn't registered. I have a relation born out of wedlock in 1906 and his birth was also never registered. We know for this sure because his mother told him so when he was in his 60s and needing to produce his birth certificate to apply for a pension! It seems failing to register births wasn't uncommon. Hope you can find some other clues to help instead!
