Hi Sue, Have you got the 1901 census information for your Empsons?? Mary is in Bramfield and is described as Head of household but married - could Henry still be in Trinidad? The PRO Ref is RG13/1304, folio 7, page 5 and you can do a free look-up for yourself at the moment on Ancestry and get all the information. I can't find them on the 1891 census but that would figure as looking at the birth dates of their children they would be in Trinidad. Have you tried searching on 1837 online for their marriage? I know it is a pay to view site, but both names are reasonably uncommon and you would not have a large number of years to search. Sorry not to have been of more help.
