Hi, I am new to the list. I have a morturary broach with the inscription on the reverse side which reads, Rev Maurice Phillips, died 1822 aged 55 years. From the National Archives Wills and Admins 1796 to 1903 I found Rev Maurice Phillips, right dates. The executor was Esther (presumably his wife?). Location Harpenden HRTS. On the National Burial Index 2nd ed there is a Maurice Phillips age 55, died in January 1822 buried in London. Highly likely the same man. I have not made the link from Maurice & Esther to my great grandmother, Hannah Ada Sylvia Phillips who came to Australia in 1850s. Her parents according to her marriage certificate were John Williams and Mary Ann Williams. I have a couple of contenders in Wales for a John and Mary Williams in both 1834 and another in Wales in 1837. The first is the 10 March 1834 in Bedwelty, MOnmouth Eng, John Phillips m Mary Williams. Apart from having the morturary broach, I would not know that a Rev Maurice Phillips was lurking on the family tree. Hannah Ada Sylvia states on her marriage certificate that she was born nr Bristol. My father said that Hannah Ada Sylvia was known as Sylvia, but if this was her last initial it is likely that the 's' is not recorded and there are many Hannahs (no Ada). There is nothing on IGI, PAF, Pallots for marriage of Maurice and Esther, but I could take a guess from the names that they might be Jewish. Can anyone help please?
