Does anyone know if there is a 1851 Census Index covering Hamper Mills which is in the Cashio District of Watford. I am looking for the Hester family who were here in 1841. Many thanks Ray Simpson raychris@care4free.net
Hi Though I do not know the boundary details at that time, I do know that there is a road called Hamper Mill Lane, which runs on the South side of the River Colne, and the Grand Union Canal, from Bushey Arches (where it is called Eastbury Rd) towards Moor park. The River tends to be the natural boundary in the area, and generally Cashio (now Cassio) is on the north side of the valley. As such it may well be in either Bushey or Moor Park area. I live in Croxley Green, which is north of the River, but to the West of Cassiobridge. Incidentally, my brother went to school with a HESTER from that part, and he was the last person to drown in Common Moor Lock on the Grand Union Canal at Croxley, c 1965. Probably coincidence, but who knows?!
