    3. Hi Thelma: The first I heard of Sarah was in the 1881 census, from which I was able to search the IGI and find her marriage at Portsea. In 1851, William Robert WILLCOCKS was married to Elizabeth CHALKLEY, and is shown in the census in Portsea, with wife and her sister Mary. This marriage appears to have been childless, as the later censuses only show progeny from the second marriage. I have been unable to find Sarah GILES in Hampshire in 1851, but I suppose there is a possibility. In 1861 they would probably have been in the Hartings in Sussex, where Evelyn Jemima WILLCOCKS was born in the Sep Qtr of 1859. By 1862, they were in Shoreditch, London, where Robert WILLCOCKS was born . They were still in this general area in Kingsland, Middlesex in 1864, when William Charles WILLCOCKS was born, and finally, by 1868 they were in Colchester, Essex for the birth of Edward H. Willcocks. By 1881 Robert had fled the coop, but in 1891 he is back. A researcher in Essex was unable to find them there in 1871, and nobody has indexed 1861 for Sussex yet, so again no information was found. Having also found no birth records for Sarah, pre-registration, I don't know where in St. Albans she was born. There is a Giles family in St. Ippollitts, but a red herring as the father is not George, who was specifically named on her marriage register entry. She was not previously married. Brick walls are hard to destroy! Regards Martin Willcocks Taylorsville, UT, USA. ================= Thelma wrote: Hi Martin I have looked through part of the St.Albans area 1851 census but have only come up with two Giles families so far, each headed by a William and containing no Sarahs. I can give you details if you'd like them. Meantime, if you haven't yet been able to find Sarah, can you be any more specific re her birthplace and whether the family was actually in St.Albans in 1851?

I have Elizabeths in my Chalkley tree who could fit the marriage date. Dot in Salisbury, Wilts
