    3. George..... Firstly, it's Hitchin, not Hitchen. Secondly, go back to www.old-maps.co.uk and search for coordinates 518750,228250 When you get there, click on "enlarged view" and you'll have Hitchin Hill roughly mid-screen. There is a fork in the road just above the "ll" in Hill. The left hand fork is Stevenage Road. The same coordinates in www.streetmap.co.uk will show you how it looks now. I agree that the on-line quality is not good, but maybe a (paid for) printed copy will have been scanned to a higher definition. It says you can have these delivered by e-mail, but then you have the problem of printing them out on a suitable size sheet of paper. Has anyone on this list tried it? There appears not to be a "Falcon" in modern Hitchin. I'm told there is a Hertfordshire Pubs web site and another one, possibly now defunct, called Pubsindex which might be worth a google.
