Hi, I am new to this list. I have been researching my family tree and have tracked them back to Andrew Wille(y) who died in Weston in 1766 at the age of 73. He has a plot in the churchyard there and I hope to find more at HALs since I found out how old he was. Andrew's son James (b1742) was my GGGG grandfather and he married Alice Bennet from Ware in 1768 and had a second marriage to Susanna Swain in 1787. His son James (my GGG grandfather b:1772) married Ann Allen in Clothall in 1794. James and Ann left Weston at some point and went to live in Chipping Barnet and the line gradually moved further into London. I am particularly interested in the probable 50-100 year period that the Willey family were prominant in Weston (They were Yeoman who undertook responsibilities such as surveyor of roads and overseers of the poor). This is somewhere around 1700-1725 up until 1800 - 1825. I don't just want to trace a line of names but to understand as much as possible about what life was like back then in and around Weston/Herts. My nephew is a publisher and we are interested in compiling a work that would set ordinary family life against the background of policital and economic life and the arts at that time. Any information that would point me in the right direction would be much appreciated but particularly any information anyone has about Weston and its surrounding villages and towns and any contacts with the people in my tree. Thanks. Best wishes Marion
