    3. Hi Peter Here is Eliza on the 1852 Census. She appears to be with her mother and siblings: 1851 Census Hertfordshire Registration District: Hertford Ecclesiastical Parish: Rochester Civil Parish: Tewin Surname: Page Mary 32 years, Married, Born Tewin Herts, Occ Needle Woman Eliza 10 years, Born Hertingfordbury, Scholar Emma 4 years, Born Hertingfordbury, At Home Frederick 2 years, Born Hertingfordbury, At Home They were living with Mary's parents at Poplars Green: Surname: Wiltshir Richard 61 years Married, Born Tewin Herts, Occ Farm Labourer Maria 60 years Wife, Born Hertingfordbury, House Wife William 24 years Son, Unmarried, Born Tewin, Occ Farm Labourer Emma 18, Dau, Unmarried, Born Tewin, At Home Charles 14, Son, Unmarried, Born Tewin, Farm Labourer In 1861 Mary was living in Barnham Green, Datchworth Herts Mary 38 years Widower, Charwoman Emma 15 years Dau, Servant Alfred 11 years, Son, Ag Labourer, born Tewin George 9 years, Scholar, born Tewin Sarah 7 years, Scholar, born Datchworth Alice 5 years, Scholar, born Datchworth William Ray, 31 Years Lodger (????) Ag Labourer born Tewin I think your Eliza was in Islington, St Mary,London working as a servant for John and Catherine Stewardson Eliza Page 21 years, servant, born Tewin Herts. Not sure what happened to young Frederick, there is a Frederick Page aged 10 living with another Page family in Datchworth but it records him as being their son... probably related. So may be poor Freddy died. Nothing jumps out for the 1871 Census so maybe the women had married or Mary had remarried. If you check FreeBMD or the IGI Index, you might be able to track them. 3. Maureen, Below I have sent my notes on Mary Page nee Wiltshire and as you will pretty much match you email, thank you. I am curious why you think Eliza was in Islington, St Mary,London working as a servant for John and Catherine Stewardson ( Eliza Page 21 years, servant, born Tewin Herts.) I guess this is from the 1861 census. Perhaps Alfred and FREDrick are the same person. 1851 Joshua's first wife Mary is still a Page and shown as a needlewoman and wife living at Poplar's Green, Tewin. Her family has increased, Eliza Rebecca (Joshua's daughter) is now ten years old but there are two illegitimate children, Emma 4 and Fred 2. By 1861 Mary had moved to Burnham Green, Datchworth, is calling herself a widow, has added George, Sarah and Alice to the family and her trade is charwoman or tea lady. Her family did not stop growing, with William baptised in that year . Ponder her relationship with Joshua's parents, William and Jane, who are now both 76 years old. She is living in the same village having borne seven children in his name well after he had left for Van Diemen's Land. In 1866 Joshua's father passed away, his mother the following year and Mary has her last child baptised Maria. The Datchworth Parish Baptism Register highlighted Mary Page's plight with the following entries; March 21st 1858 Baptised Sarah Anne, illegitimate daughter of Mary Page, whose husband is under sentence of Transportation. August 27th 1859 Alice, illegitimate daughter of Mary Page, the husband has not returned from transportation. February 10th 1861 William, illegitimate son, husband still away. June 10th 1867 Maria, illegitimate daughter, husband in Australia. Needlewoman 1851 Charwoman 1861 Census 1861 Burnham Green:Mary Page head of household widow 38 - Charwoman b. Tewin, Emma 15 servant b. Tewin, Alfred 11 Ag lab, George 9 scholar, Sarah 4 scholar b. Datchworth, Alice 5 scholar b. Datchworth. William Roy or Ray lodger 31 Ag Lab b. Datchworth. William Roy/Ray maybe the father of the children born after Joshua was transported ? Note William was born 1861, at this time, thus William Roy/Ray is most likely the father, another child Maria is born 1867. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Player" <player6@bigpond.com> To: <ENG-HERTFORDSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 12, 2005 9:06 AM Subject: Re: [HRT] new member interests > Hi Peter > > Here is Eliza on the 1852 Census.
