I am looking for correct parentage of the Thomas JEFFS who supposedly died between 1820-1851 in Hertfordshire. His wife Hannah lived at least until the 1861 census in Hemel Hempstead. Based on that census which gives her birthplace as Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire it does seem likley that she is the Hannah BATES who married a Thomas JEFFS on 26 Jan 1809 in Ivinghoe. Most IGI sources give the place of birth for Thomas JEFFS as Eaton, Bray, Bedfordshire. That seems unlikely ... but possible. There were JEFFS families already living in the Hemel Hempstead area before the time of Hannah BATES marriage in 1809. Anyone have more detail on the Thomas JEFFS who was in Hemel Hempstead by 1820?
