Keith, (For info: You have posted to a Herts list, I think, but Buckland, where they are in 1881, is actually across the borders in Bucks...) I have had a quick look, but am struggling to find them as a family in 1891, (perhaps someone else will spot what I have failed to?). I can see an Elizabeth Smith, (a 30 year old "Domestic Servant Cook", and born in Tring), at Wendover Lodge, Wendover, Bucks. The household is that of John W Markham, a 38 year old farmer born in Derbyshire, his wife, son and nephew being at the same address. Curiously this Elizabeth Smith shows as married, (as opposed to widowed), but there are no other Smiths at this address, just another servant, (born in Northampton). Wendover is only about 3 miles from Buckland, by the way..... I can't find any other close match for Elizabeth, nor any obvious match for William or Joseph in 1891. Equally I can't see any burial in Buckland itself that might explain William or Joseph having dissapeared between 1881 and 1891.....
