I am fairly new to this list and would like to know if anyone else is researching the JOLLY and SEAR families in and around Hemel Hempstead. John Jolly of Gadebridge Farm died in 1875. Would he have owned the farm? I know that it is no longer there but was it a large farm and where could I get any info/pictures about it? Same with Durrants Farm in Northchurch where one of his sons lived. Also, does anyone remember it being called Jolly Farm? I have found the Sear family at various addresses in Hemel Hempstead (as well as Picotts End, Two Waters, Waters End) and I wondered if any of these houses still exist! 1851: 130 Chapel St 1861: 76 Queen St 187 Marlowes 1871: 165 Marlowes Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give. Barbara
My family is Sears/Sear of HemelHempstead and I have much on them. The spelling varied in the same generation...even two brothers were Sear and Sears! Send more detail of your interest.
Exciting news! My g grandmother was Ann Jane Sear b 1850 in HH who married Francis Jolly. She was second of 5 children - parents William Sear carpenter b1822/3 in HH and Mary Ann Cook b 1821, (father John Cook, wheelwright). William was oldest of 4 children. Parents William Seear, carpenter, b1791/6 in Berkhampstead or Frithsden and Sophia b 1796 in Great Gaddesdon. Hope we match up somewhere!
