Mike, Thanks for your response. You're right about the accuracy of census data. As someone who spent years transcribing census records for the FreeCen project, you sometimes needed the skills of a code-breaker to decipher the words; however the challenge had its rewards when you finally works out what was meant as opposed to what was written!! Regarding my photo, there is always the other possibility; i.e. the photographer, although based in Watford, may have been a travelling tradesman and included Notts and Derbys on his route. In family history research, when faced with a brick wall, resort to lateral thinking!! Thanks again, Mike
