Hi Dean, For many many years Stratford in East London where I used to live had a lovely museum called the Passmore Edwards Museum. It was free and a joy for me and others to have a browse in to learn about the local history. Sadly it was closed down in 1998 and all the contents were removed to the Essex County Records Office in Chelmsford. We were only saying the other day who on earth was Passmore Edwards as his name crops up often around Stratford and London. I have read your email and looked up the website and now I know who he was. The museum used to be in Romford Road I think it was Stratford right close to the Stratford library. They would probably know more about Passmore Edwards, as would a local historian would know. So maybe contact could be made that way. Not sure what the connection is between the museum and Passmore Edwards, but I will try to find out. Meanwhile I shall have a delve and see what I can find. I am going to the historical club meeting tonight and they are very knowledgeable - although I live in Havering, Essex now - and might be able to give me some information. Regards Diana Re: Newbie to your list. I am researching the life and history of John PASSMORE EDWARDS, the Victorian philanthropist. ( www.passmoreedwards.org.uk ) His granddaughter, Vivien Passmore Edwards, married James William SOMMERVILLE, in 1920, and for some time, at least until 1955, they lived at "Bracondale, The Avenue, Radlett, Herts". I would very much like to trace any living relatives of this couple or any other information about them.I hope someone can help me. Dean Evans
