    1. [HRT] The mysterious Lynwood Higgins - help!
    2. Hi listers, I've received a marriage certificate that's created more questions than answers. I'm not sure what my next step should be. On 3 October 1881, Aaron Hale (26) married Alice Higgins (25) at St Thomas' Church in the parish of Stepney? (looks more like Steponly but was that a parish?) in Middlesex (reg district Mile End). Their address is London St, with the groom at #6 and the bride at #7. Alice's father is shown as Lynwood Higgins (deceased) - builder. Searches for this name turn up nothing. I've also tried searching for Alice under her maiden name but have the opposite problem - plenty of 'em all over England but which one is mine? I have Aaron and Alice in the 1901 census showing Alice's birthplace as Wormley, Herts. Her age is 44, so if she lied about her age on the marriage cert she kept it up 20 years later! So there we have it - at last I have Alice's maiden name but no birth, no sign of her before her marriage and no sign of her father either. I'd be very grateful for any strategy suggestions. Cheers, Lisa PS I'm posting to both the MDX and Herts lists - apologies to those who are receiving it twice!

Stepney was indeed a parish in East London, now renamed as Tower Hamlets. > I have Aaron and Alice in the 1901 census showing Alice's birthplace as > Wormley, Herts. This indicates, surely, that her birthday fell between the 31st March (census day in 1901) and 3rd October (wedding day in 1881) and the year would be 1857. Mike
