    3. Hi Dean I believe you need to write to HALs to ascertain where the Electoral Rolls for the area of interest are held, within the time frame you specify. There is a charge for searching. I found a date for a marriage (say 1915) and assumed there might have been a child born born within 2 years, and looked for Electoral Roll info circa 1935-1939 for example. It's hit and miss because Elections weren't held during the war but I am resarching my family forward after great grandparents emigrated in 1878 so like you I have no idea of any children's names! Desperation is the mother of invention and I try anything! You might find a helpful Local Registry or the GRO from which you could purchase the only current entry on the Free BMD (I don't have Ancestry sorry ) which shows a Somerville father with an Edwards mother which is as follows: JANET M SOMERVILLE birth registered Mar Q 1923 Hammersmith 1a/364, stating that her parents must be James William SOMERVILLE & VIVIEN PASSMORE EDWARDS. If this is correct you could then track a marriage perhaps for Janet M. or you might find her on the Electoral Rolls. Good luck Marlene Dean Evans wrote: > No I haven't, Marlene. How would I do that? 3. Thanks Marlene, you have given me a breakthrough. I have been using Ancestry, which uses FreeBDM data but didn't pick up the Sommerviles with only one "m". Most of these data bases are a bit hit or miss. I was searching through a copy of the Times this morning for a reference that Ancestry said was there but it took several goes to actually find it. 3. Hi Dean It's not always the databases! You may find instances of the following: 1. The wife spells names differently from the husband 2. The name varies from County to County, if the family moved 3. The Vicar "hears" something different from the Census Enumerator 4. Then Miss Transcription joins in..for her share of the fun!! 5. And then the family uses nicknames because there are too many Johns, Williams, Georges, Mary Anns and Sarahs in the village... so you get Jacks, Willies, Pollys and Sallys... Who needs Sudoko, just try Family History! ;-) Best of British! Marlene Dean Evans wrote: > Thanks Marlene, you have given me a breakthrough.
