I've made no serious attempt at formatting, but left a double space between entries. The original census form is signed "J. Montague Lines" and the address appears to be 269 & 271 - the adjacent properties are nos. 267 and 273. Nellie had 1 "child born alive" and 1 "child still living". John states he is an "Employer" and his place of work is "at home". From the peculiar way John writes a "9", I would say his age is actually 39, not 37. His house/shop had 8 rooms. John's birthplace had been mis-transcribed. It was Southwark SE. I think I've extracted all the meat to be had - please let me know if you need me to gnaw the bone. Thanks to Mike and Anthony for your reply. Mike the family you have is correct. I have been looking at the Lines family for some time now and am having recently connected my George Lines (born Bower Heath about 1795) Blacksmith of Wheathamsptead. George is the son of Joseph Lines and Sarah. Joseph is the blacksmith of Bower Heath at the time of George's birth. There is a brother to George Lines called Joseph and he is the blacksmith in Harpenden. >From that point there is a long history of Lines blacksmiths in Harpenden. I had discovered that a John Lines son of the blacksmiths of Harpenden did become a grocer in London There has been previous work on the family and I am wanting to look at that in detail. I have been picking away at my side of the family for many years now and also have my postings on the Wheathampstead web site. Again much appreciated getting the 1911 information.
