    1. [HRT] Sidney HAMMOND, born 1830, Hatfield
    2. Victoria Perry
    3. Hi, I am new to this list and trying to trace Sidney HAMMOND, who was born in Hatfield in 1830, the 2nd son of Thomas HAMMOND and Jane BRADLEY. I work at Hatfield House and Sidney was a servant here in 1846. I am trying to find out what happened to him for an exhibition. In the 1841 census he can be found in French Horn Lane, with his parents and siblings. In 1851 he is at Arlington Street, the London residence of the 2nd Marquess of Salisbury. Unfortunately our own records stop here, so I don't know when he stopped working here, but it was certainly before 1861. I haven't been able to find him at all on the 1861 census, even though I've tried every single search term that I can possibly think of! His father died in 1851 and his mother and younger brother moved back up to Yorkshire, where she was from. I have traced one of his sisters as a servant at another London house and one of his brothers went to Australia. I've tried looking in the Australian death records for him, but although his brother (George) is there, Sidney is not. Does anyone have any ideas? It's as though he just vanished off the face of the earth! Best wishes, Vicki Perry Assistant Archivist Hatfield House
