With regard to your original query, yes there were Craufurds (transcribed Cranfurd which is how the handwriting reads) at Brightwood House in 1911 but neither Quentin nor Charles. Head of Household is Henry R G Craufurd JP. Hello Anthony - many thanks for your great efforts on my behalf - and my apologies for not getting back to you sooner - I have been on grandpa duties, school half-term. In CQGC's obituary his military rank is Commander (retired), R.N., - died Nice, France 1917 - residence in UK is given as Brightwood. I understand Henry Robert Gregan Craufurd & CQGC were brothers. Quentin son of CQGC was born in France 1879 - he spent some time in the USA returned to the UK sometime before 1930 and died in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1934. He married a Michigan girl and in 1907 a Quentin Jr. came along. I was really wondering whether the Craufurd family were/are still, at all influential in the Tring area. Best regards. James. Hello James, You should thank Tony, too, he found the 1911 record. It looks as if you have the record of Charles's death; if not it can be downloaded from TheGenealogist.com. They have transcribed the date as 1916 but is does say dix-sept in the original. It shows Charles was born in Paris son of Robert Craufurd and Fanny Wolley and that he was married to Esmeralda Valsamachi. I live in Denmark so do not know present day Tring. Hello Anthony - thanks for the reminder but I have already contacted Tony off List. I think a call to a local library down Tring way is in order. James. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Anthony M.
