I am writing from Australia in the hope of trying to connect our Tasmanian family to Taylor descendants in Britain. My gg grandfather James Taylor a bricklayer by trade was possibly born in and/or around Bishops Stortford around 1802. He was convicted of theft and came as a convict to Tasmania in 1845 followed by three children Sarah, Martha and James TAYLOR Junior. His convict record shows James had Sisters - Hannah, Mary and Sarah, and a brother David. Susan with the abbreviation M mother or - W wife is particularly hard to decipher Bishops Stortford Essex (sic) is the 'native place'. He was married and had 5 children at the time of conviction.
