Hi folks, I am new to the list but would like some assistance if possible. I am looking for any information on Maurice Fitzgerald BRITNELL born 1937 Herts. I do know that his mother's name was Agnes but no information on his father. He has a sister Mary, Margaret born 1934, another sister I think was named Connie, brother John born 1940, all born Herts. I did find an M F BRITNELL in OXF but contact with him told me that this gentleman was not the same man. I have found births as follows:- Mary M BRITNELL June qr 1935 Watford Mary M BRITNELL Dec qr 1935 Watford (Don't understand this! The June entry was added later by hand and says see D55) Maurice F BRITNELL Sept qr 1937 Watford Margreta M BRITNELL Mar qr 1940 Watford Constance P BRITNELL Dec qr 1945 Watford I couldn't find John. The mother of all of these children had the maiden name QUINN. Edwin E BRITNELL married Mary A QUINN in Mar qr 1931 in Kensington. Alternatively, you can buy 12 credits that are valid for 14 days for £6.95 or whatever the Canadian equivalent is. However, I can tell you that you will find only one Maurice F Britnell in the index and he was registered at Watford in the Jul-Sep quarter of 1937 (vol 3a page 1729), mother's maiden surname QUINN. You can purchase the birth certificate from the GRO's website and this will give you both his parents' names. ON NO ACCOUNT CLICK ON THE LINK TO BUY THE CERTIFICATE THROUGH ANCESTRY!!! They charge almost 3 times the price you can buy certificates from on the GRO site for £7.00 and it's a rip-off! You will also find several other children born at Watford with the same mother's surname. Next search the online England & Wales Marriage Index 1916-2005 and you will find the marriage of EDWIN E BRITNELL to MARY A QUINN (possibly Agnes was her middle name) at Kensington in the Jan-Mar quarter of 1931 (vol 1a page 351). There was a child born at Chelsea in the Jul-Sep quarter of 1931, probably also theirs. In all there was the child at Chelsea and 5 more in Watford. Simple!
