Just thought I'd bring you up to date on further developments with James Ormston Bell and Geraldine Beasley, as a direct result of your help. Dick suggested that Geraldine may have been a widow when she married James. So, I looked for a marriage between a Mr. Beasley and a Geraldine, and found one. The lady's maiden name was Westerdick which, I've discovered is a very rare name in England. Then I found the births of five children of the marriage. Next step was to take my chances on Genesreunited to find Geraldine Westerdick. I tried with no hope and almost fell off my chair when she popped up. I contacted the subscriber who confirmed that Geraldine (b.1921) was his mother and, yes, she had married my cousin and, yes, she's still lives in Hertfordshire. So, thank you, Dick. I'm hoping to find out lots about James now. I'm also following up on Janet's suggestion that James may have been married earlier to Edith C. Reed. Thank you, Janet. With a bit of luck, I won't have to look too hard if Geraldine can confirm this. As my family has one of the most common names (Bell) in Britain, it makes a nice change to be dealing with what must be the most uncommon one. Flying high! Vivienne Toronto
What a great result, Vivienne. I hope your new found relations give you lots of lovely info. It is a wonderful feeling isn't it - this happened to me as I actually found a cousin in Canada over the net who put me in touch with his father (my uncle) and as a result of that I met my uncle, another aunt (who is still going strong aged 100) and various cousins, as well as the original cousin and his wife in Canada. Fabulous and I hope it turns out as well for you as it did for me.
