Mike, Thanks for your reply to my message. I purchased FTM from PC World recently. My problem was how to copy and install files from an earlier edition of FTM to the new edition. At the time of writing this message, I am about to give it a go. Transported relatives My research has included tracing a relative who was sent to Australia as a criminal. However, I have yet to discover his parents. 'Cyndi's List' Website has been useful, as has the Hertford Records Office. The Ancestry message boards and this message board has provided useful contacts. I am told the book 'Transported Beyond The Sea' by Ken Griffin is useful, although I haven't purchased it yet. I have had a conversation with the author, who was very helpful. It is my intention to buy this book at some point soon. If you send me some details of your Hemel Hempstead names, I will check my computer entries and see if we have any connections. If so then your John was baptised St Mary Hemel Hempstead as John Evered born 9.6.1794 and baptised 28.8.1794 father Thomas mother Ann. Thomas Evered married Ann Linney 3.11.1787 at St Mary Hemel Hempstead. Thomas is most probably the Thomas Everett baptised St Mary Hemel Hempstead 27.4.1766 son of Thomas and Mary. I need to buy some new software for my tree, currently using a very old FTM programme. My files are stored on an unreliable and slow pc, which I wish to transfer to my 'Windows Vista laptop pc'. ? Has anyone got advice or tips on the FTM 2010 programme or how to transfer files? I've looked at the Ancestry Site but am still confused. ? I am a real novice, but have over 2000 entries in my tree. ? Note:? My tree is mostly in Hemel Hempstead ? Thanks, ? Ron ? ? Flash/Thumb drive/or CD or whatever is easiest - even floppies / do you 'zip up' the old FTM' [getting the tree icon? Easy to do - 1] open file - blue 2] go up under F[ile] on tool bar 3] choose copy/export 4] save as and choose [at bottom] GEDCOM [next window opens] 5] Destination-FTW/Version 5.5/ ANSI [or choose these] the key is in that 5.5 - 2 cks - shorten - NO - I do check abbreviate tags Clip okay and up pops the 'tree' on your desktop - I open using the old name But add 2010- in front of name - lets me know that is my active one then just email to self or send to me and I'll mail back Ur new FTM will open this - I don’t think I have any Hemel Hempstead names - joined this list to follow Harvey & Pierce - Isn’t it nice - this world of ours - Everyone so helpful?
